Torn

A fan fiction by Birgit (bivalo)

Prologue

Dear Bear,

I love you from the bottom of my heart. You know that there isn't a thing in the world I wouldn't do for you, which is why I must do this.

I want you to be happy, to have all your lives dreams and goals accomplished and all I'll do is hold you back. I couldn't live with myself if that were the case, which is why I must leave.

I'm a coward and can't say this in person, but you'll change my mind and I can't let that happen. So believe me when I say this is the hardest thing I've ever had to do.

I love you, Bear, more than you can understand. Take care of yourself and reach your dreams. I'll be with you in your heart forever.

Please don't try and look for me. I have to leave and if you look for me, it'll only make things harder on both of us. Do understand that there is no one else for me. I'll always love only you and keep the memory of these past months in my heart.

So keep up what you’re doing, Bear. Don't ever forget me and this memory we have. Cherish it for what it was and know that I'll be thinking of you too. Always.

Oh god… This is harder than I imagined and that's because I only see your face in this picture I have on my desk.
I love you, Bear. I love you so much which is why I'm leaving. You have no future with me, you'd be a nobody and that would make us both miserable.

So good-bye, sweetheart. Good-bye, my love.
I'll see you in my dreams.

Love,
Pooh

Chapter 1: A meeting

“Izambard! You’re half an hour late!” a voice shouted through the hallway.
Seb turned around, laughing sheepishly. “I know, but I have the perfect excuse.”
“I don’t want to hear it! Get your butt in there!”

Seb looked at the woman who was bossing him around. He loved to get on her back. And every time she fell for it. He sniggered. Simon’s PA was quite a handful and not the easiest to work with, but they all loved her. And they loved to tease her.

Bridget Mason worked for Simon for about 13 years now. The day after she graduated, Simon had hired her. She had started as a secretary but in a few years, she had reached the top. Simon had given her so many chances and she was very grateful for it. She loved her job and she loved the guys. She knew that they always tried to get on her back, but she got used to it.

Seb opened the door to the meeting room for her. “After you, mademoiselle.”
“Thank you. But don’t think you’re getting away with it so easy.” She said seriously.

Urs saw them coming in and smiled. The sight of Bridget always brightened his day. She was so beautiful. And smart. And… Yes, he loved her. He fell in love with her the moment Simon introduced them.
Bridget was tall, had short black hair and piercing green eyes. But she was always very distant when he tried to get to know her. She didn’t tell a thing about her private life.

When Urs met her, he was still in a relationship. But a few months after the ID circus began, Linda had broken up with him. And ever since, there hadn’t been anyone else. Well, not for a long time relationship anyway.

“Good morning, Sebastien. Glad you decided to join us.” Simon said.
“I’m sorry, Simon. But don’t worry, Bridget already had a go at me.” He said.
Simon winked at her. “Good girl! Sit down, Seb, so we can start.”

It was a long meeting. Simon planned a new tour and there were a lot of details that needed to be sorted.
“And Bridget is going with you.”
“I am?” she looked surprised.
He nodded. “Yes. I need someone I can rely on. And I know everything will be perfectly organised when you are with them.”
“Thanks for the confidence, but…”
“We’ll talk later.” Simon said and turned back to the guys.

Urs looked at Bridget and noticed she didn’t look very happy. Was there someone waiting for her at home?

It was late when Simon finally finished the meeting.
“Can we go, Simon? Sabrina wants me to meet the wedding planner.” Carlos sighed.
“Sure. Don’t forget the charity event tomorrow evening.” He said.
“Just appearances, right?” David asked.
“Yes, just appearances.” Simon nodded.
“Alright. See you guys!” Seb waved and dashed out of the door.
“Probably a date.” David grinned.
“You want a ride home?” Urs asked Bridget.
“That’s really nice of you, but don’t bother. I’ll take the underground.” She smiled.
He shook his head. “It’s late and it’s dark. I’ll drop you off.”
“Ok, thanks.” She nodded.

Bridget went back to her office to get her purse. She just turned off her computer when Mike, one of the PR people, came in.
“Hi Bridget. We are going to check out the new night club. You want to join us?”
“Some other time maybe. I just had a long meeting with Simon and I’m quite tired.” She smiled.
“Oh… ok.” Mike shrugged. “Can I give you a ride home then? I’m driving to the club anyway.”
“Thanks, but Urs already offered. I better go now.” She took her stuff and held the door open for him. “Have fun and I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“Yeah… Bye.” Mike left, but Bridget saw he wasn’t happy she turned him down.

Urs drove Bridget home. She gave him directions and he stopped in front of a Victorian house.
When he saw the lights were on, his heart tugged. “It looks like someone is waiting for you.”
Bridget smiled. “I’m sharing this house with a friend. I guess she’s home already.”
Urs let out his breath. So she wasn’t living with a man.
“Thanks for the ride, Urs. I guess I’ll see you tomorrow evening.”
“Ja. Goodnight, Bridget.” He nodded.
“Night!” she waved and walked to the front door.

Urs drove off and didn’t see Bridget walking away from the house in the opposite direction.

Chapter 2: The wedding planner

Carlos parked his car behind Sabrina’s black Porsche in front of her parents’ estate. The butler let him in and brought him to the dining room.
The table was full with books and magazines and he sighed. There was no way he was gonna get the small wedding that he wanted.

“Good evening ladies.” He greeted them.
“Carlos!” Sabrina jumped up and kissed him on the lips. “Finally! I want you to meet our wedding planner. This is…”
“Ulva.” He whispered.
“Oh… You two know each other?” Sabrina asked surprised.
“Yes, we do. Hello, Carlos. How are you?” Ulva asked, trying to keep her voice even.
“Fine.” He looked at the woman in front of him. This couldn’t be happening. Here she was, the woman who broke his heart 8 years ago.

“Well, it’s good that you two know each other. That makes it a lot easier.” Maria, Sabrina’s mother said. “Ulva was just suggesting to go with you to buy your suit.”
Carlos tried to compose himself. “I can buy my own suit.”
“Of course, darling. But I want you too look dashing.” Sabrina said, patting his hand.

While the women talked, Carlos kept looking at Ulva. She looked more beautiful then ever. Her dark blonde long hair was neatly pinned up and her ice blue eyes sparkled. Her knee length black shirt and jacket looked expensive. The years had done her good. She looked so mature.

Sabrina poked him in the ribs.
“Que?”
“I asked if you already decided on your best man?”
“Ehm… No, not really.” He shook his head.
“Maybe you should ask Seb. After all it is a Divo who is getting married.” Sabrina smiled.
Carlos looked at her. “Si, but… I thought about asking Ricardo.”
“Ricardo? Oh Carlos… Just ask Seb.” Sabrina turned to Ulva again.

Carlos clenched his fists. Did he have anything to say in all this? It was his wedding too. He looked at Ulva and still couldn’t believe she was there. Didn’t she know it was him who was getting married? Or did she just come here to torture him?

“I have a picture of that somewhere.” Sabrina bit her lip. “Mum, can you help me find it?”
“Sure, sweetheart.” Maria and Sabrina left the room, leaving Ulva and Carlos behind.
Ulva occupied herself with organising some of the magazines.
“Why are you here?” Carlos asked seriously.
“Sabrina and Maria hired me to plan the wedding.”
“Did you know it was me?” he asked.
She shook her head. “No. I wouldn’t have accepted otherwise.”
“Why did you leave me, Ulva?” he looked intently at her.
She sighed. “You know why.”
“No, I don’t.” he snapped. “You left the night before…”

“Found it! Look, this is what I want for the flowers.” Sabrina came in, showing Ulva the picture.
Carlos sighed. This was gonna turn out in a big mess!

Meanwhile Seb was having dinner with Ana at his apartment.
“So, what did the doctor say?” he asked.
Ana sighed. “They found something in my blood.”
“You got anaemia or something? Is that why you are always so tired?” Seb asked.
“No… It’s a bit more serious.”
“Ana, what is it?” Seb asked gently.
“It’s not good, Seb. I…” she swallowed. “I got leukaemia.”
“Mon Dieu!” he took her hand. “When are they starting treatment?”
“They’re not. I’m dying, Seb. There is nothing they can do.” A tear rolled down her cheek.
Seb stood up and pulled her in his arms. “Non. It can’t be. There must be something they can do.”
“It’s too late.” Ana whispered. “I don’t want to die, Seb.” She sobbed.

Seb held her tied. He couldn’t believe he was going to loose his best friend. They went to High School together and they had been best friends from the day they met. She told him her little secrets, he told her about the girls he liked and he had been there the day her parents died. Ana had encouraged him to release his first CD and Seb sat on the front row when she appeared in her first Broadway show. They were soul mates and now he was loosing her.

“How long have you got?” he asked softly.
“3 to 6 months.”
Seb looked at the woman in his arms and his heart broke. “Marry me, Ana.”
“What?”
“Marry me. Spend those last months with me. I don’t want you to be on your own.” He said seriously.
“But Seb… I can’t. I mean… You have your career and… There are other women who…” she stammered.
He shook his head. “You are all that matters right now. I’m not gonna let you do this on your own.”
“Oh Seb…”
“Is that a yes?” he asked gently.
“Yes.”
Seb kissed the top of her head. “I’ll arrange a small wedding as soon as I can.”
“Are you sure?” Ana bit her lip.
“Yes. You mean so much to me, Ana. It’s the least I can do.”

Chapter 3: The event – part 1

It was early morning when Seb entered the Sony offices. When he walked into Bridget’s office, she saw something was wrong.
“Seb, what’s happened?”
“I need your help.” He said softly.
“Sure. Sit down first. You want some coffee?” she asked.
He nodded. “Yes, please.”

Bridget ordered coffee and sat down next to him in the large couch against the wall.
“Tell me what’s wrong.”
“You know Ana, my best friend?” he asked.
Bridget nodded. “Yes, I do.”
“She’s got leukaemia. She’s dying, Bridget. There is nothing they can do.” He whispered.
“Oh Seb…”
“She’s got 3 to 6 months. And I don’t want her to go through this on her own. Bridget, I…” he bit his lip. “They’re all going to say that I’m crazy, but… I asked her to marry me.”
Bridget smiled. “I think that’s really sweet of you. But are you sure?”
“Yes.” He nodded. “I need to do this. But I need your help. Just a small wedding, the two of us, you and Simon.”
“What about the others?” Bridget asked.
“I don’t know. It’s not like we’re best friends.” He shrugged.
“No, but I’m sure they’ll be there for you.”
“I know, but…” he sighed. “Let’s just keep it between the four of us.”
She nodded. “Ok. I’ll arrange something.”
“Can you do it quickly?”
“I’ll see what I can do.” Bridget nodded.
“Merci.” Seb stood up and hugged her. “Merci beaucoup.”
“You’re welcome. Well, I’ll see you tonight at the event. And bring Ana if you like.” She smiled.
“I will. Bye!” Seb walked out, feeling relieved that he shared his problems.

That evening a black limousine brought the guys to the Sheraton hotel. Urs and David got out first, followed by Sabrina and Carlos and Seb and Ana.
Seb tucked Ana’s hand in the bend of his arm. “Are you ready for this?”
She nodded. “Yes.”
He smiled at her and they followed the others towards the press.

Sabrina dragged Carlos with her and smiled and posed like she was the star. Her red dress left little to the imagination and Carlos gritted his teeth. He knew she loved to show off, but couldn’t she have dressed a little more appropriate?

“Miss Ellison, is it true that you and Mr Marin are getting married soon?” a reporter wanted to know.
Sabrina smiled at him. “It sure is! I’ll make sure you get an invitation.”
Carlos took her arm. “Let’s go in now.” While they walked away, he hissed in her ear. “We are not inviting the press to our wedding!”
“Oh darling, of course we are.” She kissed his cheek and shrugged of her cape. “Here, put my coat away.”

Ana looked at Seb. “Is she always like that?”
He nodded. “Wait till later.”
“Really? Oh my…” she shook her head.
“Just ignore her.” Seb winked.

“Hi guys!” Bridget came over to greet them.
“Hi Bridget. You look lovely.” David kissed her on the cheek.
“Thanks.” She blushed.
“Stunning would be more appropriate.” Urs added and kissed her hand.
“Stop it, you guys!” she blushed even more.

Bridget wore a black velvet dress with a low cut back, and some embroidery.

“Hi Ana, how are you?” she greeted Seb’s friend.
“I’m fine, thank you. It’s great to see you again.” Ana smiled.
“You too.”
“Bridget, be a darling and get me some champagne.” Sabrina ordered.
Carlos was about to open his mouth when Bridget answered her. “The bar is on the other side of the room, Sabrina. I’m sure they’ll be happy to serve you.”

The three others chuckled. Sabrina grabbed Carlos’ arm. “Let’s go.”
“Well done.” Urs whispered.
“I don’t mind doing things for you guys, but…” she shrugged. “Come on, I’ll show you our table.”

Urs offered her his arm and she smiled when she accepted it. He couldn’t keep his eyes from her. She looked so beautiful tonight. Simple, but stunning.

Chapter 4: The event – part 2

During dinner, Bridget was seated between Seb and Urs.
“I arranged it for Friday afternoon. 3h at the Saint-Peters Chapel.” She whispered.
Seb squeezed her hand. “That’s perfect, thank you.”
“You’re welcome. Let me know if I can help you with something.”
“I will.” Seb smiled.

“This wine is crap.” Sabrina called one of the waiters over. “Bring me some champagne.”
“Yes, Madame.” He bowed.
Simon raised an eyebrow at Carlos. He shrugged. What was he supposed to do? He didn’t want to ruin the evening.

“Do you want to dance, Bridget?” Urs asked, when Seb and Carlos hit the dance floor.
“I eh…” she blushed. “I’m not so good at that stuff.”
“If you are wearing such a beautiful dress, you should dance.” He stood up and took her hand. “Just follow my lead.”
“Ok, but don’t complain when I step on your toes.”
“I won’t.” Urs laughed.

Urs led her to the dance floor and gently took her in his arms. It felt like it was meant to be. Her left hand rested on his shoulder while her fingers of her right one interlaced with his.
After a while Urs raised her chin. “Don’t look at your feet.” He said softly, locking his eyes with hers. “You’re doing well.”
“Thanks.” She whispered.

Bridget lost herself in his eyes. She knew she was gonna get in trouble if she would let this happen. She liked him so much, but she couldn’t allow him in her life. He didn’t belong there.

David walked over to the bar. He ordered a glass of champagne and looked at the couples on the dance floor. Being single on a night like this was no fun at all.
A young woman appeared next to him and smiled at him. For a minute he was lost. Her blue eyes reminded him of the sky on a sunny day and her blond hair almost invited him to touch it.

He swallowed. “Hello. I’m David Miller.”
She shook his hand. “Lorna-Jane Carter.”
“Nice to meet you. You’re American?”
“Yes, I am.” She smiled.
“Yeah… I thought so. I’m from Colorado.” He grinned.
She looked surprised. “No way! So am I! But I spend most of my time in a Swiss boarding school.

David kept talking to her for a while. When the music died down, he took all the courage he had. “Do you want to dance, Lorna-Jane?”
She nodded. “Yes, I would like that.”

The two of them made it to the floor and David took her in his arms. Her scent prickled his nose and made him forget where he was.
“So, David… Can I ask what your profession is?” she asked, looking up at him.
“I’m a singer. I used to be an opera singer, but now I’m part of Il Divo.” He smiled.
She nodded. “Of course! I knew there was something familiar about your name.”
“Well, I used to know a Lorna Carter myself.” He said.
“It’s a common name.” she said softly.
“Yeah…”

Lorna was lost in thoughts. David Miller… Could it be? Could he be the boy that used to live on the farm next to her?

In the mean time, Sabrina had danced with almost every man in the room. Carlos stood at the bar and slammed down one whiskey after another.
“Don’t you think you had enough?” Simon asked.
“There is nothing else for me to do.” His eyes spit fire when he looked at his fiancée.
Simon sighed. “Carlos… Are you sure about getting married?”
“I can’t get out anymore, can I?” he looked at his glass. “I do love her, Simon, but…”
“It’s not easy. I know.” Simon patted his back.

Seb and Ana were the first ones to leave.
David was next. He said goodbye to Lorna-Jane. “Maybe we can keep in touch?” he suggested.
“I would like that.” She nodded and handed him a business card. “Call me sometime if you like.”
“I will.” He kissed her hand. “Goodnight, Lorna-Jane.”
“Goodnight, David.”

“Can I give you a ride home?” Urs asked Bridget.
“I’m taking a cab.” She smiled.
He nodded. “So am I. We can share one.”
“Ok.”

Simon took care of Sabrina and the very drunk Carlos.
“I can’t believe you, Carlos!” she shook her head.
“What? My fiancée was dancing with other men. What was I supposed to do?” he mumbled.
Sabrina didn’t say another word. When they got at her apartment, she didn’t even wait for Carlos. She went in and slammed the front door.
“You want me to bring you to your own apartment?” Simon asked.
“No, it will be ok. Thanks, Simon.” Carlos stumbled inside.

The cab dropped Bridget off.
“I’ll walk you to the door.” Urs said while he got out.
“No, there is no need.” She stopped him.
“Oh… Ok. Well eh… Goodnight.” Urs leaned in and kissed her softly on the cheek.
“Night, Urs. And thank you. I had a great night.” She smiled.
He nodded. “So did I. Sweet dreams.”

Bridget waited till the cab took off, before she started walking away.

Chapter 5: A wedding

Bridget and Ana arrived at the chapel on Friday afternoon. Bridget had insisted that Ana bought a wedding dress. She didn’t want to at first, but in the end she gave in. And now she was glad that she had agreed. It was a very simple dress, but she looked beautiful.

Simon waited for them at front entrance and handed her a bouquet of white roses and forget-me-nots.
“They are beautiful.” Ana said, tears appearing in her eyes.
“Yes. Seb thought they would be perfect.” Simon smiled. “Do you want me to walk you to the aisle?”
She nodded. “I would be honoured. Thank you.”
“I’ll join Seb.” Bridget smiled. “And I’ll try to calm him down a little. Knowing him, he’ll be nervous!”

Bridget smiled at Seb when she approached him. He nervously played with his tie.
“You look great, Seb.”
“Thanks. Is she here?” he asked.
She nodded. “Of course she is! And she looks great.”
Seb hugged her. “Thank you so much for all this. It’s perfect!”
“You’re welcome.” Bridget has asked a florist to decorate the chapel. White roses were placed everywhere.

When the music started, Seb turned towards the door. He couldn’t believe his eyes when Ana walked in. She looked so beautiful in her silk and satin gown. The crisscrossed bodice and waist swept to a removable rhinestone brooch above a high-slit skirt. The dress suited her perfectly.

Seb took her hands when she stood next to him. “You look beautiful.”

It was a short and simple ceremony, but an emotional one as well. When they said their vows, Seb swallowed. “…till death do us part.” He whispered.
Ana had tears running down her cheeks when she repeated the words.

After the priest had declared them man and wife, Seb softly kissed her lips and hugged her tight.
Simon and Bridget looked at each other. Both of them felt the strong bond between those two people and it was hard to believe that Ana would be gone in a couple of months.

Simon handed Seb two tickets. “I booked a little house on the Caymen Islands for a week. You’ll be back on Saturday, so that you can pack for the tour.”
“You shouldn’t have, Simon.” Seb shook his head.
“I think you two can use some time away to talk things through.” He smiled.
“Oui. Merci. For everything.” He shook Simon’s hand and hugged Bridget. “And thank you for arranging all this.”
“You’re welcome.” She smiled.
Ana hugged her as well. “Thank you. You’re a great friend.”

“Seb, should I tell the others or do you want to do it?” Simon asked.
“You do it.” he nodded.
“What about the fans?” Bridget wanted to know.
Seb sighed and looked at Ana. “I don’t know if we should tell them.”
“Maybe it’s better if you don’t.” she said softly. “After all… I’ll be gone soon enough.”
“I didn’t mean it like that.” Seb pulled her close.
“I know, but…” she sighed.
“Think about it and let me know.” Simon patted Seb’s back. “There is a cab waiting to bring you home.”
“Merci Simon. I’ll see you soon.” Seb nodded.

Bridget and Simon watched them leave.
“I hope he knows what he’s doing.” She said softly.
Simon nodded. “Yeah… So, Miss Mason… Can I take you out to dinner?”
“That would be great, Mr Cowell.” She smiled.
Simon offered her his arm and they walked out.

Chapter 6: The path of love

David played with Lorna’s business card. He didn’t know if he should call her or not. He felt strongly attracted to her, but they hardly knew each other. But she had made an impression on him that he wasn’t able to forget.

After taking a deep breath, he dialled her number.
“Lorna-Jane Carter speaking.”
David’s heart skipped a beat when her voice filled his ear. “Hello Lorna-Jane. It’s David. David Miller. We met on the charity event…”
“Of course. How are you David?”
“I’m fine, thank you. I was wondering if I could take you out to dinner tomorrow night.” He nervously bit his lip.
“I would like that very much.” She smiled.
“Really? Great! How about 8h? Can I pick you up somewhere?” he chattered.
Lorna laughed. “8h is perfect.” She gave him his address. “I’ll tell the doorman to let you through.”
“Great! Well, I’ll see you tomorrow then. Bye Lorna-Jane.”
“Goodbye David.”

He hung up and did a little victory dance through the room. “Right… the restaurant.” David flipped through the yellow pages till he found the perfect place and immediately called to book a table.

Carlos was having lunch with Sabrina and her mother. The two women couldn’t stop talking about the wedding.
“Ulva really is amazing. She gets everything done in no time and she has such amazing ideas.” Maria said.
Sabrina nodded. “It’s gonna be such a beautiful wedding.”
“Do we really need a wedding planner?” Carlos asked.

The two women looked at him like he had lost his mind.
“Of course we do, darling! I can’t do everything on my own. And you are always on the road.” Sabrina said. “I do hope that will change when we are married.”
“I have a career. You knew that when we started dating.” He snapped.
“Yes, Carlos. But I want to spend some time with you. And I would love to have a few children.” She pouted.

Carlos sighed. He wanted children too. Sabrina knew that very well and she knew exactly how to hit his soft spot.
“You can always come and visit me.” He said softly.
Sabrina took his hand. “I will do that. You know how much I love travelling!”

He sure knew. And the further they went and the more expensive it was, the more she loved it. Carlos’ mind wandered of to Ulva. Things had been so different with her. She didn’t care about money or fancy presents. She loved the small things of life. But she had changed too. She dressed expensive and it looked like she had gotten herself a proper education.

“Have you asked Seb yet?” Sabrina interrupted his thoughts.
“Asked Seb what?” he frowned.
“To be your best man.”
He sighed. “I told you I want Ricardo.”
“Carlos, you are a Divo. You have to ask one of them. So ask Seb next time you see him.” Sabrina insisted.
Carlos shrugged. He knew he wouldn’t win the battle so he kept his mouth shut.

Seb and Ana went back home.
“When we come back from our trip, you should move in here.” He said softly.
She nodded. “I really appreciate you doing this. And I understand if you don’t want to take the trip. After all it’s not a real marriage.”
Seb hugged her. “Ana, I love you and I care very much for you. I wouldn’t have done this for just anyone.”
“I know, but…” she sighed. “What if you meet someone you really like?”

“We’ll deal with it when it comes to that. And it’s not likely. I mean…” he pulled back a little and looked her in the eyes. “It’s been ages since I actually met someone that I feel so connected with. Someone who understands me, who likes me for who I am, who I can talk to…”

“I’m not gonna forbid you to sleep with anyone.” She said, looking at her feet.
Seb raised her chin. “I married you and I don’t cheat.”
“But…”
“I don’t want to hear another word of it. Let’s go to bed. It’s been a long day.” He said and took her hand.

When they stood in front of his bedroom door, he hesitated. “Do you want to sleep with me or in the spare room?”
“Well, we are married, so…” she bit her lip.
“I’ll behave. But I would love to hold you.” He said softly.
Ana smiled. “I would like that very much.”
“Then that is what we’ll do.” Seb let her in and closed the door behind him.

Chapter 7: A date

Seb and Ana arrived at their house on the Caymen Islands. It was secluded and had a private beach.
“Simon sure has good taste.” Ana smiled.
“Oui, he does.” Seb agreed.
“Do you mind if I take a nap? I’m quite tired.”
“Of course not. Shall I order dinner or do you want to go out?” Seb asked.
Ana looked at him. “Why don’t we eat here tonight? It’s been a long day.”
“Ca va.” Seb put the suitcases in the bedroom. “We’ll unpack later. Get some rest first.”
“Thanks, Seb. For everything.” She said softly.
He kissed her forehead. “Sweet dreams, Chérie.”

David made his way over to Lorna-Jane’s and took a deep breath before he entered the building. The floors were made of marble and the walls were decorated with expensive looking paintings.

“Can I help you, sir?” the doorman asked.
He nodded. “I’m David Miller. I’m here to see Miss Carter.”
“Of course. She is expecting you. Charlie, will you take Mr Miller up?”
The liftboy bowed slightly. “This way, sir.”

David followed him, a little taken aback. It looked like Lorna-Jane was quite the rich chick. When they came to the top floor, Lorna waited for him.
“David, it’s great to see you.” She shook his hand.
“You too.” He handed her a bouquet of white roses.
“You shouldn’t have. Come in.”

David followed her inside and couldn’t believe his eyes. The apartment covered the whole top floor of the building. The furniture was modern, but cosy. He stopped in front of the living room windows.
“What a view!”
“Yeah… I love this place.” Lorna said behind him.
“I can see why.” He turned around and looked at her. “You look beautiful. And we match.”
She grinned, looking at his blue shirt. It was the same colour of her dress. “Good choice.”
“I booked a table at ‘The Ivy’. I hope that’s ok?” he asked.
“It’s great! It’s one of my favourite restaurants.” She smiled.
“Good. Well… shall we?”

Lorna nodded and picked up her purse and coat. They silently took the elevator downstairs, secretly looking at each other, both of them a little nervous.
“Have a nice evening Miss Carter, Mr Miller.” The doorman greeted them.
“Thank you, Thomas.” Lorna nodded.

David helped her in the waiting cab and sat beside her. When he caught her gaze, both of them started laughing.
“I thought Urs was the quiet one.” Lorna smiled.
“Yeah… I guess I’m a little nervous. It’s not everyday that I get to date a lady.” He said.
“A lady?” she laughed. “Oh David… I’m not a lady. I’m just a simple girl from Colorado.”
“With an amazing apartment and very good manners.” He added.
Lorna sighed. “I was lucky... in a way.”
David felt he overstepped and gently took her hand. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to upset you. Can we start over?”
She smiled. “Sure.”
“You look beautiful tonight.” He lightly kissed her hand and smiled when he saw her blushing.

When they got to the restaurant, David helped her out of the cab. They were led to the private dining room on the first floor. A table was placed in the middle of the room and the lights were dimmed.

“You sure put in an effort.” She smiled when David held her chair.
“I wanted to impress you.” He admitted softly.
Lorna looked at him when he sat in front of her. “I like you, David. And you don’t need to impress me. I like you for who you are. I hardly know you, but…”
“I’m glad to hear it.” He said, taking her hand. “Tell me about yourself. What do you do?”

“I’m an English teacher at a private school. There is a department here in London and one in New York. I spend one semester here and the other one over there.”
“Do you like teaching?” David asked.
She nodded. “Yes, it’s great. They’re mostly children of ambassadors and other high positioned people, so you get in touch with all kinds of cultures. It’s really interesting.”

The rest of the evening they talked about their jobs and hobbies. When David asked about her family, he noticed that she didn’t go into it, so he decided not to push it for now. She would tell him in time.

After an exquisite meal, the cab brought her home and David accompanied her up.
“I had a lovely time, David. Thank you so much.” She smiled.
“I enjoyed myself too. Maybe we can do it again sometime?” he bit his lip.
She nodded. “I would like that very much.”
“Great! I’m leaving in about a week, but maybe we can do something in the mean time. I’ll give you a call.” He beamed.
“Ok. Goodnight David.” She smiled.
“Night Lorna-Jane.” He leaned in and his lips softly brushed hers.

Lorna closed the door behind her and leaned against it. She was falling for him, but she knew that some people wouldn’t like it at all. What was she supposed to do?

Chapter 8: An encounter

Seb and Ana had spent a day on the beach. After a lovely dinner, they walked home. It was still early, but Ana felt tired.
“Do you mind if I go to bed?” she asked.
“Of course not, Chérie.” Seb looked at her. “You look a little pale.”
She nodded. “I’m tired. But why don’t you go for a drink at the bar?”
“I don’t know…” he shrugged.
“I don’t mind. I don’t want you to lock yourself in here while I’m asleep. Go and have some fun.” She said.
Seb kissed her forehead. “Ok. But I won’t be long.”
“Seb, please… I’m fine honestly. If not I’ll call you.” She gently pushed him to the door. “Get out.”
“Sweet dreams.” He winked.

Seb walked over the beach. The music from the bar reached him, but he didn’t feel like going over there. He kept walking and suddenly he ended up in some kind of sheltered place under a staircase. He sat down on the sand and looked at the stars.

Who would have thought a couple of months ago that he would be married by now? Married to a very sweet woman, but not his true love. But would he ever find someone he loved? Someone who loved him for who he was?

“Who are you and what are you doing here?”
The feminine voice disturbed his thoughts. Seb sat up and looked at the woman. She stood there, hands on her hips, looking intently at him.

“I’m sorry. I… This is not a private beach, is it?” he stood up.
“Well…not really.” She smiled. “It’s my hiding place.”
“I’m Seb.” He said, extending his hand.
“Sophia. I live upstairs.”
Seb shrugged. “Well, I better go then.”
“It’s ok. You can stay.” Sophia sat down on the sand and patted the space next to her.
“Thanks.” He smiled. “So who or what are you hiding from?”

Sophia sighed. “My father is having this boring party. And I’ve been trying to get out of there for ages.”
“I know those parties.” He grinned.
“Yeah… So I come here to hide.”

Seb looked at the woman next to him. She sure was gorgeous. She had long wavy light brown hair and really dark intense blue eyes.
“You approve?” she asked, looking straight into his eyes.
Seb blushed. “Oui. I mean….”
“You’re French?” Sophia asked.
“Yes, I am. I’m from Paris.” He nodded.
“Cool! I would love to go there one day.” She smiled.
“Well, you never know where life takes you.”
Sophia sighed. “Yeah… not far I think.”

They quietly sat together for a while, both of them lost in thoughts.
“You have a lot on your mind, haven’t you?” Sophia suddenly said.
Seb nodded. “Oui. The last week has been… very intense.”
“Well… If you want to come over here to think, be my guest.” She smiled.
“Are you sure? I don’t want to intrude.” He bit his lip.
“You’re not. You look like a nice guy, so…” She looked at him, a hint of mischief in her eyes. “You’re not a serial killer are you?”
Seb laughed. “No, I’m not! A lady killer maybe.”
“I think I can handle that.” Sophia smiled.

Seb looked at his watch and sighed. “I have to go now.”
“Ok. Well, maybe we’ll meet again.” Sophia said.
He nodded, standing up. “Maybe tomorrow evening.”
“That would be great!” She blushed when she look at him. “I mean…”
“A demain.” Seb winked and walked away.

Sophia grinned and lay back on the sand. What was she doing? Flirting with a guy she barely knew? But god… He was so cute! Those green eyes…

“Sophia!” her father’s voice made her jump up. She quickly ran up the stairs.
“Yes, dad. I’m here.”
“There are some people I want you to meet, sweetheart.” He smiled.
“Ok, daddy.” She sighed. ‘Here we go again!’

Chapter 9: Harsh words

“It looks like Seb is late again.” Urs rolled his eyes.
“He’s not coming. That’s why I asked you all to come.” Simon looked at the three men.

He had asked them to come by his office that morning. Bridget brought them coffee and was about to leave, but Simon stopped her.
“You can stay, Bridget. You know the story.”
She nodded and sat down with the others.

“Alright, what’s going on? Where is Seb?” David asked.
“Seb and Ana got married on Friday. They are taking a little honeymoon.” Simon said.
“They what???” Carlos almost dropped his cup.
David shook his head. “Seb got married? No way!”
“And without telling us? With Ana? I didn’t even know they were together.” Urs continued.

“Look, guys… What I’m about to tell you, stays between these four walls. No blabbing to anyone, especially not to the press.” Simon said seriously.
“He got her pregnant. Idiota!” Carlos said.
“Marin! Don’t you dare insinuating that!” Simon snapped. “Ana got leukaemia. She’s dying. She has 6 months left. At the most.”
“Mein Gott…” Urs whispered.
Simon nodded. “So Seb decided to marry her. They have been best friends forever and he doesn’t want her to go through this on her own.”

“How can you marry someone you don’t love? Out of pity. I can’t believe it.” Carlos shook his head.
“You should talk.” Urs mumbled.
Carlos raised an eyebrow. “Excuse me?”
“Nothing.”
Carlos stood up and grabbed Urs’ collar. “Say it again.”
“He’s not the only one who’s marrying someone he doesn’t love.” Urs snapped.
“Stop it guys!” David said.
“At least I have a woman. But what’s it with you? Are you gay? Is that the reason that you’re single for more then 3 years?” Carlos said angrily.
Urs freed himself and his fist hit Carlos’ chin.

“Bühler!” Simon’s voice roared through the room. “Stop it! Both of you.”
David stood in between the two men, trying to calm Carlos down, while Bridget gently took Urs’ arm and pulled him down next to her on the couch.
“Don’t.” she whispered.
Urs looked angrily at her, but when he saw the fear in her eyes, he took her hand and gently squeezed it.

“Right. Now you know. Don’t you dare behave towards Seb like that. One wrong word and you’ll have me to deal with. I want you all on the airport on Monday morning. Be in a good mood or it will be a very long tour.” Simon said. “Marin, Bühler… Try to get along for once.”
Carlos marched out of the room, not looking at Urs.
“Bye Simon.” David said quietly before he left.

“Bye David.” He nodded. He looked at Urs who was about to leave. “Take Bridget home.”
“Ok. Simon, I’m sorry about…”
“Make sure it doesn’t happen again.” Simon said.

It was quiet on the way home. Bridget stared outside and didn’t look at Urs. When he stopped in front of her house, she mumbled “thanks” and wanted to open the door, but Urs grabbed her wrist.
“I would never hurt you.” He said quietly.
She looked at him and saw the honesty in his eyes. “I know. You just… scared me.”
“I lost my temper. I’m sorry.”
“You and Carlos really don’t get along, eh?” she asked.
He shook his head. “No. We’ve been fighting from the start. He doesn’t like my way of living and I don’t like his flirtatious behaviour.”
“Can I ask you something… personal?” she asked.
“Sure.”
“Why are you single?” she said softly.
Urs smiled. “Because I haven’t found the right one yet. What about you?”
“Same story.”

“Are we pitiful or what?” he laughed.
Bridget shook her head. “No. Just waiting for the right one to show up. Or…” she hesitated. “Or maybe they are already here but we don’t want to see it.” she opened the door. “Goodnight Urs.”
He nodded, absorbed in thoughts. “Night.”

Chapter 10: Is this what they call love?

Seb’s days were always the same. During the day he went to the beach with Ana, or they took a little trip or went for a walk. And after dinner, she went to bed and he went to his secret hiding place to meet Sophia.

He felt a little guilty, but he was falling for Sophia and there was nothing he could do. Ana had noticed the change in him, but she didn’t ask him about it. She was afraid that he regretted his decision and she didn’t want to loose him.

When Sophia arrived that night, Seb had a blanket spread out. A bottle of champagne and two glasses stood next to it.
“What’s all this?” she asked.
“A little romance.” He winked and handed her a glass.
Sophia smiled. “Thanks. I love champagne.”
“Me too.” He sipped his glass and looked at her. “How was your day?”
“Boring. I had a meeting that just kept going for hours.”
“What exactly is that you do?” he asked.
She smiled. “The company I work for makes electronics. We are trying to get a deal with Sony. What about you?”
“I’m in the music business.”
“Cool.” She nodded.

Suddenly Sophia pointed at the sky. “Look! A falling star.”
“Make a wish.” Seb said softly.
When she looked at him, he leaned in and gently kissed her on the lips.
“I think my wish just came true.” She mumbled.
Seb pulled her close and deepened the kiss, his hands roaming her body.

They were both breathless when Sophia pulled back.
“Do you mind if we don’t go any further? I’ve never…” she bit her lip.
Seb tenderly stroked her cheek. “Your first time shouldn’t be on a beach.”
“Thanks for being so understanding.” She whispered, leaning back against his chest.

The evening ended all too soon and they said goodbye with another breathtaking kiss.
“I’ll see you tomorrow.” Seb said.
“You sure will.” Sophia waved when she went up the stairs. “Goodnight.”
“Sweet dreams, Chérie.”

Seb quietly closed the bedroom door.
“Seb?” Ana mumbled.
“Oui. It’s me. Go back to sleep.” He quickly undressed and got under the covers.
“Will you hold me?” she asked softly.
“Of course.” He took her in his arms and felt her warm body against his. What was he doing? He was married and was fooling around with another woman. Why now? Why did he have to meet someone he liked on the most impossible time?

Ulva looked through the tuxedos while she waited for Carlos. He was late. As usual. Nothing changed.
When he finally came in, his eyes were dark and she knew he was angry.
“Good morning, Carlos. I found a few tuxedos that I think Sabrina will like. Why don’t you try them on?” she smiled.
“Do I have a choice?” he mumbled.
Ulva picked up the clothes and hung them in one of the dressing rooms. “Come out when you have one on.”

He slammed the door behind her and she took a deep breath. So far, so good.
Ten minutes later, he was still in there. She softly knocked on the door. “Carlos? Everything ok?”
“Si…” he hesitated. “But I can’t tie that damn bow tie!”
“Let me in. I’ll help you.” She said.

He opened the door and she stepped in. The small space made them stand close together. Ulva stood on her toes and her hands crept around his neck to tie his bow. She made the mistake to look in his eyes and gasped. They gazed into each other's eyes for a moment, the past catching up on them. Slowly, they moved closer and suddenly his lips found hers.

“Why did you leave me?” he asked hoarsely, still holding her.
“I…” she shook her head and he kissed her again. His hot mouth made her forget everything around her.
“I thought you loved me.”
“I did.” She said softly.

He kissed her once more. His hands slipped under her blouse and she leaned into his touch.
“Carlos? Are you in here?” Sabrina’s voice made them jump apart.
“Si… I’ll be right out.” He looked at Ulva. “Tie up this damn thing and get the hell out of here.”
With trembling hands she did what he asked. When she came out, she stood face to face with Sabrina.

“I hope you like what I picked.”
“I’m sure I will. I told you what I liked so…” she smiled.
Carlos came out in his white tuxedo, looking very handsome. Ulva swallowed. The feelings she once had for him were still there. She still loved him. He raised an eyebrow and she quickly looked at Sabrina.
“What do you think?”
“Perfect! Darling, you look great.” She kissed Carlos.
“Good. We’ll take this one. I don’t need to try the others then. Thanks, Ulva. Goodbye.” He slammed the door behind him.
Sabrina shrugged. “I know he hates fittings.”
“Yeah… Well, I’m going then. I’ll see you on Saturday.”
“Yes. I can’t wait to try my dress on.” Sabrina smiled widely. “And then you finally get to meet Patricia.”
“Can’t wait. “Ulva mumbled.

She walked out of the store and took a few deep breaths. She should never have accepted to do this wedding. How could she go to the wedding of the man she loved? And not only go there, but organise it. Fate was not being nice for them!

Chapter 11: The trouble with love…

Seb slowly walked over the beach. It was his last night and he knew he had to say goodbye to Sophia. Would he ever see her again?

Sophia leaned against Seb’s chest, her eyes closed.
“I’m leaving tomorrow.” He whispered.
“Will you be back?” she asked softly.
Seb didn’t answer.

When she turned around to look at him, she couldn’t read his eyes. “Seb?”
“There is something you should know.” He took a deep breath. “I never thought I would fall in love here. And I really care for you, Sophia. Believe me. I never meant to hurt you.”
“You’re scaring me, Seb.”
“I’m married.” He said softly.
“What?” she pulled back.
“I married my best friend because she’s ill. She’s got cancer and she’s dying. I couldn’t let her go through this on her own.”

Sophia stood up, her eyes filled with tears. “Why didn’t you tell me?”
“I didn’t mean to… I…” he bit his lip.
“You used me…” she whispered.
“Non!” Seb jumped up. “I love you, Sophia.”
With a sob, she turned around and ran away.

“Sophia!” Seb was about to run after her when his mobile rang. He looked at the display and saw Ana’s name.
“Hello? … What? I’m on my way!” Seb swore. Both women needed him, but he could only take care of one. He looked at Sophia’s house and with pain in his heart he turned around and ran back to his house.

“Chérie?”
“Bathroom…”
Seb ran to the bathroom. Ana held her hand under the cold water, bleeding heavily.
“What happened?”
“I don’t know. I didn’t feel well. I think I fainted. I tried to steady myself and leaned on the table, but the glass broke.” Tears ran down her cheeks.

“Oh Chérie…” Seb took a towel and put it around her hand. He led her to the bedroom and gently pushed her on the bed. He ran back to the bathroom to get the first aid kit.
“I’m sorry, Seb.” She sobbed.
“It’s not your fault. I should have stayed with you.” He said softly. Very carefully Seb cleaned the wound and put a bandage on it. “There you go.”
“Thanks.” She sniffed.
Seb hugged her. “It’s ok. I’m here. I’ll take care of you.”

When she calmed down, the two of them got ready for bed and Ana nuzzled close to him. Seb lay awake for hours, thinking about Sophia. He had hurt her so badly. But Ana needed him now. Would he ever see Sophia again?

David had taken Lorna-Jane to a musical. It was late when he walked her back to her apartment. The feelings he had for her became stronger every time he saw her. But deep down he feared she didn’t feel the same.

“I really had an amazing evening.” She smiled. “Thank you so much for taking me.”
“You’re welcome.” He nodded. “I had a great time as well.”
“When are you leaving?” she asked.
“Monday morning. I’ll be gone for about six weeks.” He bit his lip. “But I would like to keep in touch. If that’s ok with you…”
“It’s very ok. I’m gonna miss you.” She said softly.

“I’ll miss you too.” He hugged her tight. “I’ll call you soon.”
“Ok.” She nodded.
He gently kissed her, but when he was about to pull away, Lorna deepened the kiss. She pulled him close and her hands slipped around his neck.

When they released each other, she blushed. “Sorry about that.”
He smiled. “I’m glad you did that. I ehm… Lorna… Would you consider being my girlfriend?”
“I would like that very much, David.” She nodded.
“Great!” he beamed.

He kissed her again and she moaned softly.
“I should go.” He mumbled.
“Stay.” She whispered.
David looked at her. “Are you sure?”
Lorna opened the door to her apartment and pulled him in. “Very!”

Chapter 12: Touring

Urs was the first one to arrive at the airport on Monday. Bridget and Steve arrived a few minutes later, quickly followed by Seb.
“Congratulations, Seb.” Urs hugged him.
“Thanks. I’m sorry for not telling, but…” he shrugged.
Urs smiled. “It’s ok. I understand.”
“Is Ana joining you on tour?” Bridget asked.
“Oui. She’s coming next week. She had a few appointments with the doctor this week.” Seb nodded.

“Congrats, Buddy.” David slapped his back. “How did you manage to keep that a secret from us?”
Seb shrugged. “It’s not exactly something to tell to the world.”
“No… So, how is she?” David asked.
“She’s ok.”
“Morning.” Carlos mumbled. “Apparently we have to congratulate you.” He shook Seb’s hand.
“Thank you.” He nodded.

Carlos sat down on one of the chairs, not looking at Urs. Seb frowned and looked at David who shook his head.
“Ok, guys… Time to check in.” Steve said.
“I hope I can sit alone.” Carlos mumbled and made sure he was the first one at the desk.

When they finally boarded the plane, Seb sat with David, Urs with Bridget and Steve and Carlos sat alone.
Urs noticed Bridget’s hands were trembling when she attached her belt.
“You ok?” he asked gently.
She nodded. “It’s the first time I’m flying. I’m a little scared.”
Urs took her hand. “Don’t worry, you’ll be fine. And I’m right here. You can squeeze my hand as hard as you want.” He winked.
“Thanks.” she blushed.

During take off, Bridget was only to happy that Urs was holding her hand.
“You’ll get used to it.” He said, once they were in the air.
She nodded. “I hope so.”
“Have you never been on holiday?” Urs asked.
“No.” she said softly.
“Really?” he frowned. “You work too hard.”
Bridget laughed. “You should talk!”
“Ja, but I get to see the world. And when I’m not working, I’m going on holiday or spend some time with my family.” He said.
“I don’t mind. I love my job.“ she smiled.
Urs winked at her. “All work and no play…”
“Yeah… I know some people find me boring.”
“I didn’t say that.” He took her hand again. “I think you’re really sweet.”
She blushed, avoiding his eyes.
“I’m serious.” He raised her chin. “I like you a lot, Bridget.”
“I like you too.” She said softly.
“Would you a like a drink, Sir?” one of the flight attendants asked.
Urs sighed. They never seemed to be able to talk this through.

“I met someone.” David said after a while.
Seb looked at him. “The woman from the charity event?”
“Yeah… She’s so nice Seb!” he smiled. “I fell head over heels for her.”
“It’s about time you found someone again.” His friend nodded.
“I know.” David smiled. “So you and Ana… I didn’t see that one coming.”
Seb shook his head. “I know. And I realise that a lot of people won’t understand, but… I just had to do it, David.”
“Are you gonna tell the fans?”
“Non. I don’t think it’s necessary they know. If anyone asks, I’ll tell them there is someone special in my life, but that’s it.” He glanced at Carlos. “So what’s going on with him?”
David shrugged. “He and Urs had a fight. And I think that he’s having problems with Sabrina.”
“I can’t believe he’s going to marry her.” Seb shook his head.
David grinned. “Don’t tell him that or he’ll have a go at you. That’s one of the reasons he and Urs fought.”

When they arrived in New York, fans were waiting for them. Bridget was surprised by the response the guys got.
Steve smiled at her. “It’s always like that. But sometimes it gets a little ugly. Too many fans, all of them pushing and yelling…”
“I can imagine the guys don’t always like it.” She said.
“No, but they try not to show it. That’s showbiz. Always pretend you’re happy.” Steve grinned.

Bridget nodded. She looked at the guys and saw them talking to fans, posing for pictures and giving autographs. It was amazing how they changed in just a few minutes. From the simple guys they were, they changed into superstars.

A thought hit her. How would she ever know who the guys really were when they were with her? Were they pretending as well? And what about Urs? Did he mean all the things he said?

Chapter 13: Feelings

“And then the question most women are interested in… Is there someone in your lives?” the female reporter asked.
Carlos nodded. “I’m engaged.”
“I have a girlfriend.” David beamed.
“I have someone special in my life.” Seb smiled.
“And what about you, Urs?” she batted her eyelashes at him.
He smiled at her. “There is someone special in my life as well.”

Bridget and Steve stood behind the scenes and watched the show.
When Bridget heard Urs talking about that special person, she felt a pain in her heart. There was someone in his life? How come she didn’t know? And why did it hurt her so much? Deep down she knew, they weren’t meant to be, but it still hurt as hell.

They got in the car after the interview and Urs noticed that Bridget avoided looking at him. When he did manage to look at her, he saw a flash of pain and sadness in her eyes.
“Why do they always have to ask about our love life?” Seb sighed.
“Because the women love us, amigo.” Carlos grinned.
“You guys managed well.” Steve nodded.

“Would you tell them if you were single?” Bridget asked quietly.
Seb nodded. “We did so in the past. There is nothing wrong with being single, is there?”
She shook her head. “Of course not.”
Suddenly Urs realised why she looked so sad. She thought he was seeing someone. So she did care about him after all!

“We leave in an hour for the sound check, guys.” Steve said when they got back to the hotel.
“Ok!” David yelled and ran to his room. He wanted to call Lorna.
Seb and Carlos disappeared in there rooms, but Urs followed Bridget to hers. He gently took her arm and turned her to look at him.

“I was talking about you.” He said.
“Sorry?” she frowned.
“That special person in my life… I was talking about you.” He stroked her cheek.
Bridget sighed. “Urs, we…”
“I would like to get to know you better, Bridget. I like you so very much.”
“We can’t.” she whispered.
“Why not? And don’t give me the ‘we have to work together’ excuse.” He said seriously.
She smiled sadly. “That’s one reason. Look Urs… I really like you, but we can’t be together. We’re from two completely different worlds, you don’t know a thing about me…”
“That’s why I want to get to know you.” He said.
“I can’t do it. I’m sorry.” She shook her head.
“I’ll give you all the time you need, but I’m not letting you walk out of my life. Bridget, I fell in love with you from the first day I met you.” He said.

Just then Bridget’s phone rang. “I’m sorry. I have to get this. We’ll talk about it some other time.” She said.
Urs sighed. “Ok.”
She answered her phone and opened the door. With one last look at him, she walked into her room.

Urs went back to his room and lay down on his bed. He knew Bridget had feelings for him. He could see it when she looked at him. But why was she always so distant? Was she scared? Did something happen in her past? He was determined to find out. One way or the other.

Sophia stood in front of the mirror and sighed. She really didn’t feel like going out. She wanted to stay in her room, get in bed and cry. Ever since Seb was gone, she wasn’t able to function.
And here she was, all alone in New York City for boring board meetings with a large company her father wanted to merge with. And on top of that he had forced her to go on a date with Tom Brady, the manager.

There was a soft knock on the door. Sophia took a deep breath and plastered a smile on her face. “Evening, Tom.”
“Good evening, Sophia. You look beautiful.” He smiled. “Are you ready to go?”
She nodded and followed him to the waiting car.

“Where are we going?”
Tom smiled. “I got us tickets for the ‘Il Divo’ concert.”
“Il Divo? Never heard of.” She shook her head.
“You’re kidding! Women all over the world swoon about them. Well, I guess you’ll be in for a surprise.” He winked.
“Yeah…” she looked outside and once again her mind drifted off to Seb.

Chapter 14: Si tu me amas

Tom led Sophia to their place on the third row.
“So many people!” she said.
Tom smiled. “They are very popular. I can’t believe you never heard of them.”
She shrugged. “I don’t have time for all that.”
“You should make time for it. Maybe when our companies get together, you’ll get some spare time.”
She raised an eyebrow. “You got to be kidding? You know as well as I do, that when that happens we’ll only be working harder.”
“Maybe. But there will be more people to do the work then.” He said.
She sighed. “And even more problems to solve.”
Tom was about to answer her, when the lights dimmed. “Just enjoy this.” He whispered.

After the opening act, there was a small break.
Tom smiled at Sophia. “Did you like it?”
“Yes, it was nice till now. Although I must say I’m very curious about the main act. I mean, look at all those women. They must have something that they are so crazy about them!” she grinned.
“I heard they are really good looking. And that they have amazing voices.”

The lights dimmed again and Sophia shifted in her seat. She had to admit Tom was nice company, but he wasn’t who she wanted to be with.
When the music started, women began to scream. The curtain came down, the lights came on and Sophia gasped. It couldn’t be! That was Seb!

He came down the stairs and his soft voice filled her ears. Tears sprung in her eyes and she gripped her chair.
Tom glanced at her and saw the tears in her eyes. He took her hand. “Sophia?”
She shook her head, not able to look away from Seb. This couldn’t be happening. There he was, the man she fell in love with.

“Do you know him?” Tom asked.
She nodded, while tears ran down her cheeks. “I thought he loved me.”
“You want to leave?”
“No…” she shook her head. She couldn’t move. She just sat in her chair, staring at him.

During the concert, the guys looked in the audience. There were so many familiar faces and they all felt the joy of performing again. This is why they did it. The fans, the pleasure of singing, the joy they brought to the people and the gratitude they got for it.

It was during ‘Si tu me amas’ that Seb glanced in the audience and looked straight into a pair of familiar blue eyes. Sophia!
It was only when Urs nudged him, that he realised he forgot to sing. Urs frowned and took over, his eyes telling Seb to get a grip. He gathered his thoughts and continued to sing, but his eyes kept looking at her. He saw she was crying, and he felt the pain in his heart. What had he done? He finally found a woman he loved and he couldn’t be with her.

The song finished and Seb went to the back of the stage to get some water. Urs followed him.
“What’s going on?” he hissed.
Seb shook his head. “Nothing.”
“Then get yourself together.”
Seb nodded, his hands shaking. When he returned to his place for the encores, he looked for her again. But she was gone. Two empty seats were all he could see. His heart broke once again. His true love was gone.

Sophia stood up when she saw Seb going to the back of the stage. “Take me home, please.” She said softly.
Tom followed her and put his arm around her waist to support her. They walked to the car in silence.
“I’m sorry.” She whispered.
“It’s ok. You want to talk about it?” Tom asked gently.
“I met him last week. I know it sounds crazy, but I thought he loved me. It felt so right.” She sobbed.
Tom took her in his arms and stoked her back. “It’s ok. Let it out, sweetie.”
“He’s married. He never told me who he really was.”

Tom gritted his teeth. How could someone do that? He liked Sophia and he hoped that maybe one day they would be together. But that guy had broken her heart and he knew it would take her a while to get over it.

When Sophia finally calmed down, she sank back in her seat. “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. I totally ruined our evening.”
Tom squeezed her hand. “No, you didn’t. It’s not your fault. How about I take you out to dinner tomorrow?”
She nodded. “I would like that.”

Tom dropped her off at the hotel and walked her to her room. “Are you going to be ok?”
“I’ll be fine. Thanks. For everything.” She kissed his cheek.
“You’re welcome. I’ll see you tomorrow” he smiled.
Sophia rolled her eyes. “Yep. At another meeting!”
“And dinner.” He winked. “Good night, Sophia. And for what it’s worth… Not all men are like him.”

She smiled and closed the door behind her. After a hot shower, she got in bed and sighed. She hugged her pillow and couldn’t hold back her tears. “Seb… I love you, Seb…”

Seb walked into his dressing room and slammed the door behind him. The others looked at each other.
“Did I miss something?” David asked.
Urs shrugged. “I don’t know what’s wrong with him.”

“Guys, can you change quickly? Steve want you to meet some people.” Bridget said.
“Yeah…” David looked at her. “I don’t know if Seb is in the mood for that.”
“I’ll have a word with him. You guys get ready.” She knocked Seb’s door, but there was no answer. Bridget opened the door and saw Seb sitting on the couch, his eyes closed, a tear running down his cheek. She quietly closed the door and sat next to him. “Seb? What’s wrong?”
“I lost her.”
“Who? Is something wrong with Ana?” she asked worried.
He shook his head. “Sophia. I lost the one I love.”
“Sophia? Who’s…?” Bridget frowned.

“Oh Bridge… I’m such an idiot. I fell in love with a girl while I was on honeymoon. I know I hurt her. I told her I was married on our last day. And tonight she was here. I saw her. I saw her crying.” He said softly.
She took his hand. “I’m sorry, Seb.”
“Don’t get me wrong. I care about Ana, but…”
“But she’s not the one you love.” Bridget said. “Maybe you will meet Sophia again after…”
He shrugged. “I better get changed.”
“Go back to the hotel, Seb. I’ll cover for you.” She looked at him. “And you know where to find me when you want to talk.”

Seb hugged her. “Thank you. You know, Bridget… I’m glad you work for us.”
“Me too, Seb.”
“And I’m not the only one.” He looked intently at her.
Her eyes clouded. “I know.” She said softly.
“He’s a nice guy. And it’s obvious that he likes you.” Seb continued.
“I like him too, Seb, but…” she shrugged. “I can’t.”
She quietly left the room, leaving a thoughtful Seb behind.
