Chapter 30: Fleeing

Carlos strode through his living room. He didn’t know what to do anymore. Sabrina and her mother were driving him crazy and he had more and more doubts about getting married. He knew he had to do something. But what?

And then it hit him. He took his mobile and dialled a familiar number. “Hi. … Can we meet? I need to talk to you. … The usual place? … In an hour? … Ok, see you there. Bye.”
He smiled when he hung up. Maybe everything would be alright after all.

David and Lorna checked in at the airport and giggled as naughty teenagers when they boarded the plane.
“I can’t believe we’re doing this.” She whispered.
“I feel like an outlaw.” David grinned. “This is so excited.”
“Maybe we get caught by the sheriff.” Lorna said and looked at him.
“Oh yes. I’m Robin Hood and you are the Maiden Marianne. And then I have to come and free you from the evil king.” David grinned.
Lorna sighed. “David Miller in tights… The forum will go wild.”

She burst out in giggles when David started to tickle her. A meaningful cough from the flight attendant, made them both blush.
“Sorry…” David smiled sheepishly. “We’re eloping.”
“Congratulations.” The woman smiled. “But please, think about the other passengers.”
”We will.” Lorna nodded.
David put his arm around her shoulder and pulled her close. “I’ll wear my tights tonight.”
“I can’t wait.” She winked.

“Goodmorning Urs!” Simon sounded happy. “The director of the institution was very happy with yesterday’s performance.”
“Ja, I know. Simon, Bridget is in hospital.” Urs said.
“What? What happened?”
“The building where she was living, caught fire. She was lucky that someone on the street saw her standing at the window.” He said quietly.
“My God! Is she ok? Is there anything I can do?” Simon asked.
Urs shrugged. “Well… Do you know anything about her relatives? Anyone we should call?”
“She only mentioned her mother once. And that she’s ill. I’m sorry, I can’t help you with that.” Simon replied.
“Ok, I’ll ask her friend later.” Urs nodded.
“Good. Keep me informed and I’ll come by later.” Simon said.

Carlos entered the park and smiled when he saw Ulva sitting on the bench at the pond. This is where they had met all those years ago.
“Morning.” He said softly.
“Morning.” She answered.
He sat down beside her and sighed. “I don’t know why I called you, but… I felt I had to.”
“It’s ok. Was there anything about the marriage that you wanted…”
“I don’t care about the marriage.” He interrupted her. “Ulva, I… Why did you leave me? I need to know.”
“It doesn’t matter anymore.” She said softly.
Carlos took her hand. “Yes, it does. Please tell me. Was it because you were grieving over the baby? I would have helped you. You know that.”
She sighed. “It wasn’t that. I can’t tell you, Carlos. I don’t want to cause trouble.”
“You think that seeing you again doesn’t cause trouble? I mean… Ever since you are back, you haunt me.” He said. “So, please tell me why you left.”

Ulva looked in his eyes. Those beautiful honey brown eyes that looked at her as if she was the most beautiful woman in the world. The eyes she had fallen in love with all those years ago.
“I left because your parents forced me.” She said softly.
He frowned. “What do you mean?”
“Do you remember the night I lost the baby?”
“Of course I do! It was the worst night of my life.” He said.

“While you were talking to the doctor, your mother talked to me. She told me that you would never marry me now that I lost the baby, because that was the only reason you did it anyway. She told me I wasn’t good enough. And then your father gave me a cheque to get rid of me. They wanted me to leave right away. I didn’t take the cheque, Carlos. I ripped it in pieces.” She said.

He was quiet for a while. “Why didn’t you tell me? Why did you leave like that, without saying goodbye?”
“Would you have believed me?” she asked.
“I…”
“No, because your parents mean the world to you. You would never have believed me. And I don’t blame you. God, Carlos… I was so hurt. And I believed her when she said you didn’t love me. I mean… I was so young back then and… ” she sighed. “It doesn’t matter anymore.”

“Just tell me one thing, Ulva.” He looked intently at her. “Do you still love me?”
She looked at her feet. “Yes.”
He gently raised her chin and softly kissed her lips. “We’ll find a way to sort this mess.”
“You’re engaged, Carlos.”
“Si, but… I don’t know if I want to go through with it.” He said.
“Oh Carlos…” she stood up. “Don’t do anything stupid. Sabrina loves you.”
He raised an eyebrow. “Does she? Does she love me or does she love Carlos Marin from Il Divo?”
Ulva shook her head. “I got to go.”
“Ulva. I still love you too.”
She looked at him and nodded. “Goodbye, Carlos.”

Chapter 31: An assault?

Urs parked his car close to Bridget’s building. He got out and took in the sight in front of him. Most of the windows were shattered, the roof had collapsed and he could see that there wasn’t much left inside. It was like a bomb hat hit the place.

He walked up to a fireman. “Hi, I’m Urs Bühler, Bridget Mason’s fiancée. She lives in Apartment 306…”
“Joe Cole, fire chief.” The man shook his hand.
“I guess there is no way I can get in?” Urs asked.
Joe smiled. “No, I’m sorry. It’s too dangerous. It’s possible that the building will collapse.”
“Is there anything left?”
“No. Miss Mason’s apartment was next to the apartment where the fire started. Everything is gone.” Joe said.
“Do you know what happened? Was it an electrical breakdown?” Urs asked.

Joe shook his head. “No. The fire was set deliberately. It looks like someone wanted to burn the building down. Someone threw a Molotov cocktail to the apartment next to Miss Mason’s.”
“Mein God…” Uts whispered. “She could have died.”
“Luckily for her, one of the other tenants heard glass breaking and smelled petrol, so he called the fire department. He saved them all. And when we got here, we managed to get to her apartment before the flames did. 10 minutes later and…” Joe shook his head.

Urs swallowed. “So who was it they wanted to get killed? Did the people in that apartment survive?”
“It was an empty apartment, so we don’t know. Did Miss Mason have enemies?” Joe asked.
“Not that I know. And I can’t imagine, she would.” Urs said, swallowing hard. The lump in his throat was formed as he imagined all the horrible ways she could have died and all because she was too stubborn to stay with him or Ingrid.

Joe watched the play of emotions on Urs’ face and felt bad for the man. At least this time they’d saved the woman, now it was his job to determine what had happened and how best to prevent something like this from happening again. If he lost his wife, he’d have wanted to die with her. The thought left him shaking so he took a step back and leaned against the car.

Urs watched the clouds pass by and heard the call of the birds from the tops of buildings. Everything seemed so normal, and yet nothing was. Here he was, standing on the ashes of the building where Bridget used to live, the smoke still heavy. He felt his fists clench and his heart race, it happened every time he thought of how close he’d been to losing her. Of seeing her lying so helplessly in the hospital, those moments of sheer terror as he knew nothing of her condition.

At that moment it all became too much for him as he sank down against his car, burying his face in his hands. The sobs that wracked his body had Joe concerned for a moment, but he understood the need to cry when being so close to losing the most important thing you had. If you were human you needed the cry, the draining of emotions. So Joe did the only thing he could, he handed Urs a tissue and let him cry, saying nothing when the tears finally ran dry and the man stood up.

“I’d offer you a beer, but I’m on duty until midnight.” Joe said and watched as Urs nodded.
“I’d thank you and decline. I need to get back to Bridget. You said this was deliberate. I don’t know anyone that would want to harm her. But you have my word that I’ll look into it.” Urs promised.
“Just be careful. Whoever did this wasn’t playing around. If you sense any danger at all call me directly to this number or you can call Lt. Beckham. He’s the officer in charge of this.” Joe said, handing him a card.
“I will. Thank you.” Urs shook his hand and got back in his car.

“I now pronounce you husband and wife.”
David smiled at Lorna and kissed her gently. “I love you Lorna-Jane.”
“I love you too.” She whispered.
“And I promise you that we’ll have a real wedding with all our friends and family after we solve those problems.” He hugged her.
“That would be nice.” She looked up into his blue eyes. “David?”
“Yes, Babe?”
“Can we practice our wedding night now?”
David laughed out loud and took her hand, almost running out of the little church.

The priest smiled. So many couples came to get married here. Some in the spur of the moment, others because they had no choice and some because they really loved each other. And that was exactly what he had seen in the couple he had just married. They loved each other and whatever the reason was that they had eloped, he knew they would be happy.

Urs took a deep breath and plastered a smile on his face before he stepped into Bridget’s room. Simon and Ingrid were with her, but he saw her eyes lit up when he walked in.
“Hi Simon. Ingrid.” He nodded. “Hi sweetie.” He softly kissed her forehead and his hand stroked her cheek for a minute.
“How’s my apartment?” she asked.
He sat down next to her. “Nothing’s left. I’m sorry.”
“God, no…”

“We’ll get you everything you need.” Simon said. “Don’t you worry about a thing.”
“Can you rend me a new place, Simon? They are letting me go tomorrow and…”
“You’re coming with me.” Urs said.
Bridget shook her head. “No, I…”
“Yes, you are.” He said determined. “I have a spare room for you. And we’ll go shopping first thing after they let you go.”
“I told you that I don’t want…”
“Charity? I’m sorry but you’re gonna have to accept it.” Urs took her hand. “And it’s not charity. I love you, Bridget. So it’s only normal that I take care of you.”
She didn’t answer him and looked at her hands. “What am I supposed to wear to go home? And my laptop… I’m sorry, Simon…”

“Sweetheart, we can replace a laptop. But you can’t be replaced.” Simon looked serious at her. “Let Urs take care of you.”
“And I’ll bring you some clothes you can use.” Ingrid said.
Bridget sighed. “I guess I don’t have any choice.”
“No, you don’t.” Urs squeezed her hand. “Simon, can I talk to you for a second?”
“Sure. Why don’t you walk me to my car? I have to go anyway.” He kissed Bridget. “Call me if you need anything.”
“Thanks, Simon.” She nodded.

Simon and Urs quietly walked outside. Simon saw something was bothering him, but he knew better then to push him. Both men got in the car and Urs finally started to talk.
“It was a Molotov cocktail. Someone tried to kill her.”
Simon gasped. “You’re joking!”
“Well, I don’t know if it was meant for her, but… They threw it in the apartment next to hers. An empty apartment. If it had missed, it would have ended up in hers. And she would…” his voice faltered.
“Jeezes Christ!” Simon shook his head. “Who would do such a thing?”
“I don’t know. I can’t imagine her having enemies.”
“No, me neither. Is there anything I can do?” Simon asked.
“I don’t think so. Just keep your eyes and ears open.” Urs said.

He nodded. “Yeah… Well, the positive thing is that you two are together. You know… I was never too fond of my staff messing with the stars. But deep down I knew the two of you would be the perfect match.” Simon looked at his young friend. “Threat her well, Urs.”
“I will, Simon. Thanks.”
“Go back in there. Cause I think she’s pretending to be braver then she is.” He patted Urs’ back. “I’ll talk to you later.”

Chapter 32: A shopping spree

“Seb…” Ana tossed and turned in bed.
“I’m here, Chérie.” He said softly. He felt heartbroken when he looked at her. The doctor had given her something for the pain, but he knew she was still suffering. It was there when he looked in her eyes with every intake of her breath and it hurt him. He hated to see her in pain, suffering as she was.

"What's the matter Ana?" Seb asked as she continued to just whimper in pain.
"I... I just hurt so much. Make it go away." she begged and Seb held her in his arms.
"Do you want me to call the doctor?" Seb asked again. As she continued to cry, he felt something wet on his lip and realized that he was crying too.
"Seb, I don't know. I don't know." She murmured over and over so that Seb felt his heart constrict and his eyes continued to water. There was nothing he could do for her, so he held her close and prayed for a miracle. Anything to relieve the pain.

When Fran arrived, he left the room for a minute. He couldn’t do this on his own. He needed someone.

Bridget was released from hospital and Urs immediately took her to Harrod’s. “Ok, sweetie. You buy whatever you need. Don’t worry about the money. I’ll wait here if you need me.” He said, pointing at a chair.
“Ok.” She sighed.

15 minutes later she was back. “I’m done.”
Urs frowned when he looked at the clothes in her arms. Two pants, two sweaters, a t-shirt, some lingerie and a pair of boots. “What’s that?”
“Clothes.” She said.
“That’s all?”
“Yes. That’s enough for now.”

Urs gritted his teeth. He took her arm and pulled her with him in one of the dressing rooms. When he looked at her, she saw he was angry.
“Urs…”
“No! Listen to me. I know you don’t want charity, but you don’t have a choice. You lost everything, Bridget. Everything! So I want you to buy a new wardrobe. Pants, skirts, t-shirts, lingerie, shoes, casual and classy things. I don’t care what it costs, just buy it. And I’m gonna ask one of the saleswoman to help you and call Ingrid to come over, cause otherwise you won’t do it anyway.” He strode out, leaving a stunned Bridget behind.

A saleswoman came to get her and Bridget followed her, not looking at Urs when she walked past him. And 10 minutes later Ingrid arrived.
“I can’t believe he did this.” Bridget mumbled.
Ingrid smiled. “He cares for you. Let him do this.” She took a long red dress from one of the racks and held it up. “Here, try this one.”
“You’re joking, right?” Bridget raised an eyebrow.
“Just try it on.”

After strolling the whole clothes department, Ingrid pushed Bridget in the dressing room. “Go on. Try some of those things on.”
“I hate fittings.”
“Yeah yeah…” Ingrid rolled her eyes.
When Bridget came out in the red dress, Ingrid made her do a little turn in front of the mirror. She looked up when she heard a low whistle.

“You look simply stunning.” Urs smiled, his eyes telling her everything.
“Thanks.” She blushed. “But I’m not taking it.”
“Why not?”
“I’m never gonna wear it and it’s too expensive.” She shook her head.
Urs shrugged and didn’t answer her. He looked at the pile of clothes. “Do you have everything you need?”
“Black or red, Urs?” Ingrid asked, holding up two lacy bras.
“Black. Definitely black.” He said hoarsely.
“Ingrid!” Bridget hissed.
“What? We need some male advice on this one.” She grinned. “Right… I think we have everything. Oh no! We need shoes!”
While Ingrid dragged Bridget with her, Urs pointed at the red dress. “We’ll take that one too.”
The saleswoman smiled. “Of course, Mr Bühler.”

Bridget couldn’t believe her ears when she heard the amount they had spend in just a few hours. Urs didn’t even blink when he handed his credit card to the cashier. Two bell boys brought everything to his car.
“Ingrid, thank you for coming over.” He smiled.
“You’re welcome.” She hugged Bridget. “Don’t fight him.” She whispered.
“I’ll try. Thanks for doing this, Hun.”

When they got back in the car, her phone rang.
“Hi Seb.”
“I need your help, Bridget. I can’t do this on my own.” He said softly.
“What’s wrong? Is it Ana?” she asked.
He nodded. “I think she’s dying, Bridget. She’s in so much pain.”
“Oh Seb… I’m so sorry. I’m just gonna get changed and I’ll be right over.” She said.
“Merci, Bridget.”

Urs looked at her after she hung up the phone. “Ana?”
“He thinks she’s dying. I need to be there, Urs.” She said softly.
“Of course. Let’s get changed and I’ll drop you off.” he nodded.

Chapter 33: Goodbye, my love…

It was Fran who let them in.
“Where is Seb?” Bridget asked.
“In the bedroom. She’s very restless.” Fran said.
“Maybe I should stay.” Urs said.
Bridget smiled. “No, it’s ok. I’ll manage.”
“Ok. I have some things to do myself, but I’ll come back in a while.” He kissed her forehead. “Call me if you need anything.”
She nodded. “I will. Thanks.”

“Seb…” Ana moaned.
“I’m here, Chérie.”
She tossed and turned and kept repeating his name, but it was like she didn’t know he was there.
“Bridget is here.” Fran softly closed the door.
“She doesn’t recognise me.” He whispered.
“I’m sorry, Seb. Go and eat something. You need your strength.” Fran said.
He nodded. “Oui, ça va.”

Bridget stood up from the couch when he came in and hugged him.
“Thanks for coming.” He said softly.
“You’re welcome. Are you ok?” she asked.
He shrugged. “I hate to see her like this. And there is nothing I can do. She doesn’t even recognise me.”
“Oh Seb…”
“I need some coffee.” He went to the kitchen and poured himself a cup. Bridget saw his hands shaking.
“Is there anything I can do?” she asked.
Seb shook his head. “Non. Just… be here. I…”
Bridget gave him a hug. “I’m here as long as you need me.”
“Merci.”

Fran appeared in the door. “Seb, she’s asking for you.”
He raced out of the room and sat down on the bed, taking her hand. “Ana, Chérie… I’m here.”
She opened her eyes and smiled at him. “I love you, Seb.”

In the mean time, Bridget called the others. She left a message for both David and Simon and talked to Carlos. “You better make arrangements to clear your schedule, Carlos. I think there might be a funeral soon.”
“I will. Is there anything I can do, Bridget?” he asked.
She sighed. “No. There is nothing I can do either. I’m just here. Trying to support Seb.”
“Call me if you need anything. Or if he needs anything. Or when…” he didn’t say it, but she knew what he meant.
“I will. Bye Carlos.”

Seb wiped the hair of Ana’s forehead. She tried to smile, but he knew she was in pain and he was trying hard to hold back his tears. He needed to be strong for her.
“Seb…” she whispered. “I want you to be happy. You’re my best friend. You always have been and you always supported me when I needed you. I want you to promise me that you’ll love someone with everything you have, Seb.”
“Ana…” Seb began and was interrupted when Ana lifted her hand to his mouth.

“No. I can live with the fact that you married me out of pity, but don't let me stop you from being happy. I know you love her, Seb. Go to Sophia. Tell her what you feel. You only have one life to live and it's to short to waste on what could have been." Ana told him wisely and had to stop to catch her breath.
“How…” he shook his head.

“It's written all over your face, Seb. I've known you were in love since our honeymoon. It hurt a bit at first, but now I know that I was used so that you could meet her. Or else you'd never have known her.” She smiled. “And you talk in your sleep.”
He softly caressed her cheek. “Oh Ana… I do love you.”
“As a friend. I know and that’s ok.” She squeezed his hand. “Will you do one last thing for me?”
“Anything.” He said softly.
“Can you open the curtains? I want to see the sun going down one last time.” She bit her lip. “And can you hold me? Don’t leave me, please. I don’t want to die on my own.”

Seb couldn’t speak. He opened the curtains, slid next to her and held her in his arms, her body close to his. He softly sang to her while she looked outside and smiled.
“Thank you.” A tear ran down her cheeks and she closed her eyes.
Her breathing became softer and Seb felt her slipping away. “Au revoir, ma Chérie.” He whispered, softly crying.

She died as the sun went down, accompanied by Seb’s voice. He held her for a while before gently tucking her in.

Chapter 34: Comforting

When he came to the living room, Bridget and Fran knew. No one said a word. He sat down on the couch and Bridget took him in her arms and let him cry. His heartbreaking sobs went straight to her heart, and she held him tight. Her voice was smothered with tears while she whispered words of comfort.

The mortician came by later that evening and took Ana to the morgue. Seb cried himself asleep on the couch and Bridget put a blanket over him.
“You want me to stay?” Fran asked.
She shook her head. “No, it’s ok. I’m gonna call the others now. Thank you for everything, Fran.”
“You’re welcome. Let me know when the funeral is.” She hugged Bridget.
“I will.”

Bridget pulled out her phone to call the others.
“I’ll be right over.” Urs said.
“No, it’s ok. Seb’s asleep and there is nothing I can do either.” She said.
“Are you sure? You shouldn’t be there on your own.” He insisted.
Bridget sighed. “I don’t think he’s up to facing anyone right now. Maybe you can come by in the morning? And bring me some clothes?”
“Of course. Did you call the others?”
“Yes. They are all coming tomorrow.” She nodded.
“Good. Call me if you need anything.” Urs said.
“I will. See you tomorrow.”

Seb opened his eyes and looked around, not immediately realising where he was. He spotted Bridget in one of the lounge chairs, still fast asleep.
“Ana…” he whispered. He couldn’t believe she was gone. He softly got up and put his blanket over Bridget before going to the kitchen and making coffee.
“I need a shower…” When he entered the bathroom, he saw Ana’s stuff and broke down. With her bathrobe in his arms he sat on the floor, crying softly.

Bridget found him there and hugged him. “Oh Seb…”
“I’m sorry…” he whispered.
“It’s ok. Why don’t we go for a walk? Let’s get out of here for a while.” She suggested.
“Maybe you’re right.” He got up and looked at her. “What would I do without you?”
She smiled at him. “Come on. Let’s go to the park.”

Bridget and Seb sat on a bench overlooking the lake. Seb was lost in thoughts, while they were feeding the ducks.
“It’s nice here.” He said after a while.
She nodded. “I come here when I need to think. And feeding the ducks relaxes me.”
“She knew. About Sophia. She knew.” Seb said softly, throwing another bread crumb to a duck.
“She did?” Bridget looked surprised.
“She said she knew since our honeymoon. And she found the picture.” He shrugged. “And apparently I talk in my sleep.”
“But she was ok about it?”
Seb nodded. “She says she was hurt in the beginning. But she knew I married her because…” He sighed. “She wants me to go after her.”
“That’s a good idea.” Bridget said.
“Where do I start? I haven’t seen her in months. She knows I’m married. I don’t even know if she still lives in the same place…” he said softly.
“She does.” Bridget smiled.
Seb looked up.
“I did some research. Sophia took over her father’s company when he died. She has a flat in New York, but she spends a lot of time on the Caymen Islands as well.” She took a piece of paper from her purse. “Her address, phone number and email. The rest is up to you.”
“Oh Bridget… I don’t know what to say.” He hugged her. “Merci.”
“You’re welcome, Seb.” She fed the last crumbs to the ducks. “Shall we go back? The guys will be there shortly.”
He sighed. “Oui. I guess so. Back to reality.”

When they came back to his apartment, Urs sat on the stairs.
“I’m so sorry, Seb.” He gave him a friendly hug.
“Merci.” Seb opened the door. “Come in.”
“I brought you some clothes.” Urs handed Bridget a bag.
“Thanks. I’m gonna take a quick shower then.”
Urs stopped her. “Are you ok? You should get some rest.”
“I’m fine. Really.” She gave him a quick peck on the lips.

When Bridget came back to the living room, Carlos and Simon were there and Urs let David in.
“I’m sorry, Buddy.” David hugged him. “If there is anything I can…”
“There’s not.” Seb interrupted him.
“Would you guys like some coffee?” Bridget asked.
“I’ll do it. You sit down and rest.” Urs said.
The others looked at her and she shrugged. “My apartment burned down the other day. Please don’t make a fuss about it. I’m fine.”
“Mon Dieu. You should have told me. I would never have asked you to come.” Seb said.
She nodded. “Exactly. And I know you needed me. Guys, I’m fine. Really.”
“Do you need anything? Clothes, money…?” David asked.
“No. I’m staying with Urs for the time being. I’m fine honestly.”

“So, Seb… When is the funeral?” Carlos asked.
“It’s gonna be a cremation.” He said softly. “On Friday afternoon.”
“Is there anything we can do?” Simon asked.
“Bring her back.” Seb whispered. “It’s not fair. We get paid millions to entertain. Why can’t they use that money to find a cure for cancer? She shouldn’t have died. She was young and beautiful and…” He stood up and went to his bedroom, closing the door behind him.

The others looked at each other.
“Should we go after him?” David asked.
“No, give him some time.” Bridget said. “He lost his best friend and he needs to grieve now. Maybe we should all leave.”
“You’re right.” Simon nodded and stood up. “Come on, guys.”
“I’m just gonna tell him that we’re going.” Bridget said.

She quietly entered his bedroom and found him standing in front of the window.
“Seb? The guys are going. Do you want me to stay?”
“Non. I want to be alone for a while.” Seb came to her and hugged her. “Thank you so much for your support. I couldn’t have it done it without you.”
“You’re welcome. And call me if you need something.” She said.
“I just wish I could bring her back…”

Chapter 35: Amity

“Hi Babe.” David kissed Lorna when he entered the living room.
“Hi. How’s Seb?”
“Devastated.” He sank down in the couch. “I didn’t tell them we got married. It wouldn’t have been appropriate.”
“Of course not. I don’t mind keep it to ourselves for a while. That makes it all the more exciting.” She smiled.
“Yeah… I guess we need to tell our families soon.”
Lorna sighed. “That’s something I’m not looking forward too.”
“Well, there is nothing they can do.” He pulled her close. “We’re married now. And it’s you and me against them.”
“I’ve been thinking… Are you gonna move in here or…?”
“I guess that’s the best solution. My apartment is really small. Do you mind?” he asked.
“Of course not! I wouldn’t ask otherwise.” She kissed him. “I love you, David Miller.”
“I love you, Mrs Miller.” He claimed her lips and it was quiet for a long time.

“What do you want for dinner?” Urs asked when they got home.
“I don’t know. I’m not really hungry.” Bridget sighed.
“I’ll make us something.” He softly pulled her in his arms and held her tight. “You ok, Liebling?”
She shrugged. “I feel so sorry for Seb.”
“I know. Me too. I wish there was something we could do.” He said.
“Just be there, I guess.” Bridget looked up at him. “He’s gonna need your support. And from the others.”
“And we’ll give that. I know we don’t always get along, but… We are friends in a way.”
She nodded. “I know. So, you want me to make dinner or…?”
“I’ll do it.” Urs smiled.
“Ok, I’ll better go and put all those clothes away.” Bridget smiled.
“I hope you don’t mind, but I already did it.” Urs said.
“I should have known. Swiss…” she rolled her eyes.
Urs chuckled. “Just take a look if everything is as you like it and I’ll get dinner started.”

Bridget opened her wardrobe and smiled. All her clothes were neatly arranged. All the skirts together, jackets, pants,… and going from the lightest colours to the darkest. When she was about to close the door, she gasped. The red dress! She took it out of the closet and when she looked at it, she saw Urs had removed all the tags. There was no way that she could take it back to the shop. She shook her head. That man could be so stubborn!

She opened one of the drawers and saw he had arranged her underwear as well. The thought of him touching it, made her blush. Especially when she thought about some of the things Ingrid made her buy. She just wanted decent things, but Ingrid had insisted on ‘going sexy’.

“That red dress…” she said when she walked into the kitchen.
“You can wear it to the next event.” Urs winked.
“I told you I didn’t want it.”
“And I liked it and you looked stunning in it.” Urs looked at her. “Please, Bridget... Do me this favour. It’s a gift.”
She sighed. “It’s gonna take me a while before I can pay you back.”

“I never asked you to pay me back.” He raised his hand when she was about to interrupt. “I know you don’t want charity, but if we want this relationship to work out, you’re gonna have to learn to accept things. I care a lot about you. No, I love you and I want to take care of you.” He took her hands. “I know you are very independent and that you’re used to doing things on your own. But please, Bridget, let me take care of you. Just a little.”

He saw the tears in her eyes.
“Sweetie…”
“I don’t know what to say.” She whispered.
Urs hugged her. “Just let me take care of you.”
“I’ll try.”

“The cremation is on Friday afternoon.” Carlos said.
“We are having dinner with Patricia. Do you really have to go?” Sabrina asked.
He raised an eyebrow. “Excuse me? Of course I have to go! He’s my friend!”
“Friend… That’s the first time you say that. Anyway… Don’t forget to tell your ‘friend’ he’s your best man and he needs a tuxedo.” She continued. “I have to call Ulva. I changed my mind about the flowers.”
“Maybe I should change my mind…” Carlos mumbled.
“Hmm? Did you say something?” she asked, leafing through a magazine.
“Nothing.” Carlos stood up and took his keys. “I’m going for a walk.”

Chapter 36: The final goodbye

“Are you ready?” Carlos asked when he came into the bedroom. He frowned when he saw Sabrina was still in bed.
“I’m not going.” She said.
“You’re not going?”
She shook her head. “No. I hardly knew her.”
“So? You know Seb. And it’s a matter of respect.” He said angrily.
“You should talk. I really don’t see why you are going anyway. I mean, he didn’t even marry her out of love.” Sabrina laughed cynical.
“Maybe not. But he did love her. As a very dear friend. And the least you can do, is respect that.” Carlos slammed the door behind him.

“You don’t have to come if you don’t want to.” David said, fixing his tie.
Lorna smiled. “He’s your friend. And I’m your wife now. Of course I’m coming with you.”
“Thanks, Babe. I know he’ll appreciate it.”
“It must be hard on him. Not only did he loose his wife, but also his best friend.” She sighed.
“Yeah…” David kissed her softly. “But we’ll pull him through.”

It was raining softly when Urs and Bridget arrived at the chapel. Seb had chosen the chapel where they got married.
Bridget hugged him. “Ca va?”
“Oui. Merci. Are you sure you don’t mind reading the poem?” he asked.
She shook her head. “Of course not.”

When Seb was cleaning up, he had found an envelop with Bridget’s name on it. It was a poem that Ana had written and she wanted Bridget to read it during the funeral.

The others arrived and they all went in. The urn was placed in front and was surround with red and white roses. Seb starred in front of him, not really hearing anything the priest said. But when Bridget stood up, he looked up and managed a weak smile.

“Ana asked me to read a poem. Seb, she loved you very much. Not only as a friend. You meant so much more for her and she was very grateful that you did this for her.” She took a deep breath.

There's so much I wish for
one more day with you
a lifetime of love
kisses in the moonlight
with the stars burning so bright
and the sweet melody
floating in the air.

One more hour with you
a lifetime of memories
holding hands as we walk
sand between our toes
the salty sea air
and waves crashing at our feet.

One more minute with you
a lifetime of friendship
sitting by your side
a picnic in the grass
cold bologne sandwiches and warm apple pie.

There's so much I wish for
one more second with you
a lifetime of love, memories and friendship
moonlight getaways
seashore adventures
mountain top picnics
and you by my side

There's so much I wish for...
so little I need.

Seb had tears running down his cheeks by the time Bridget stopped reading. She came to him and hugged him.
“Merci.” He whispered.
Urs squeezed Bridget’s hand when she sat down. She felt like crying herself, but she wanted to be strong for Seb.

After the service, Seb took the urn.
“What are you gonna do with it?” David asked.
“I’m taking her to Paris. And I’ll scatter the ashes near the Eifel tower. We had a special place where we always went.” He said softly.
“That’s a good idea.” Bridget smiled.
“I asked for a small pendant with some of her ashes.” Seb touched it. “She’s always with me like this.”
Urs squeezed his shoulder. “You know we are here when you need us.”
“Oui. Thanks for coming. All of you.” He said.

“You want me to come with you?” Bridget asked softly.
“No, it’s ok. I’m leaving in the morning. Simon gave me a few days off.” He hugged her. “Thank you, Bridget. I couldn’t have done it without you.”
“You’re welcome. And good luck.” She smiled.

Chapter 37: Secrets

“Querida?” Carlos heard her talking in the kitchen. But he froze when he heard what she was saying.
“I’m not gonna sign a pre-nup. I’ll talk him out of it.”
“You think you can?” Patricia asked.
“Of course! Men are so easy. A little sweet talk… A few tears…” she giggled.
“But what about children? He wants them, right?”
Sabrina laughed. “You really think he’s gonna notice that I’m on the pill? I’ll find a way to hide it. I’m not giving him children. I barely let him touch me as it is. He thinks he's God's gift to women and trust me, his love making isn't all that good. It's cracked up to be. I have to fake it every time. Trust me, I'll avoid giving him children.”

Carlos clenched his fists. He couldn’t believe what he was hearing. How could she be so mean? Was this the woman he was supposed to love?
He turned around and quietly closed the front door again. But now what?

Bridget sank in the couch and closed her eyes. Urs looked at her and knew she felt bad. It had been a though day for all of them. He sat down beside her and gently took her in his arms.
“It’s ok to cry, sweetheart.”
“I didn’t want… I needed to be strong…”
“I know.” He felt her body shaking and stroked her back. “I feel sorry for him too.”
“It’s not fair. She was only 26, Urs. She had still so much to live for.” Bridget sobbed.

Urs held her while she cried. His heart was aching. He loved her so much, but he couldn’t show her. She still kept him at a distance. Even now that she was crying.
“I’m sorry.” She whispered after a while. “You always seem to be there when I cry. I’m normally not like that. I’m…”
“You’re always in control.” He smiled. “Yes, I know. I think you have some Swiss blood deep inside of you.”
She smiled at him. “That’s not so bad.”
Urs tightened his grip. “Bridget… I really love you. And I know I promised you to take it easy. But please trust me and come to me when you feel bad.”
“I will.” She nodded.

He dipped his head and gently kissed her lips. But when he deepened the kiss and his hand slipped under her shirt, she froze.
“I’m sorry. It’s too soon.” She bit her lip.
Urs stood up. “I’ll start dinner.”
Bridget watched him walking away and felt guilty. But she couldn’t. She cared a lot about him, but was it love?

“So, David… What did you want to talk about?” Simon asked.
He took Lorna’s hand. “We got married a few days ago.”
“Right… Well ehm… Congratulations. But why the secrecy?” Simon asked.
“Our parents.” David looked at Lorna. “When they found out we were dating, they tried to break us up. It’s because of an old family feud. But we really love each other, Simon. And we thought that… Well, if we got married they just have to accept that.”
“And if they don’t?” Simon asked.
David shrugged. “I…”

Simon leaned forward, his hands resting on his desk. “Is this gonna cause trouble for Il Divo?”
“I don’t know.” David shook his head.
“You better tell me everything.” He looked at Lorna. “Why did you marry him? To get back at your parents?”
“No. I love him. I really love him.” She said. “I always loved him. Even when we were children, I felt a connection. When I got older my parents send me to a finishing school. But I never forgot about David. He’s always been in my heart.”
“And why didn’t you look for him before?” Simon asked.
“I didn’t know where he was. Or how to reach him.” She looked at her hands. “And my parents didn’t want to talk about him.”

Simon nodded. “Ok. Where did you get married?”
“Gretna Green.” David said.
“Hmm. I think the first thing you two need to do is tell both of your parents. I gave Seb a week off, so it would be good if you could leave in the morning. I’ll book your flights.” Simon said.
David smiled. “Thanks, Simon. I appreciate it.”
“And call me if there would be a problem.” Simon stood up and shook David’s hand. “Good luck!”

Chapter 38: Battles

Carlos rang Ulva’s doorbell.
“Carlos? What are you doing here?” she looked shocked.
“Can we talk?” he asked.
“Ehm… sure… Come in.” she held the door open. When Carlos passed her, she closed her eyes. His cologne prickled her nose and brought back memories.

She led him to the living room and he looked around admiringly. “You changed a lot in here.”
Ulva nodded. “Yes. Little by little.”
“It’s nice.” Carlos nodded.
“Why are you here?”
Carlos sighed as he sat down. “I want to… I want to break up with Sabrina.”
“What?” Ulva frowned.
“She doesn’t love me. She loves my money and the fame.” Carlos clenched his fists.
“What about you? Do you love her?” Ulva quietly asked.

He looked up and his honey brown eyes met her blue ones. “No. I think I stopped loving her a long time ago. And what I felt for her wasn’t like anything I felt for you.”
“Oh Carlos…” Ulva sighed.
He kneeled down in front of her and took her hands. “Ulva… Will you give me another chance? Can we try over?”
She shook her head. “I don’t want to be the reason of your break up, Carlos. And we have both changed. A lot.”
“I know. But my feelings for you haven’t changed. Give me a chance, Ulva. That’s all I’m asking.” He squeezed her hand.
“I…” she bit her lip.
“Is there someone else?” Carlos asked.
“No.” she answered quietly.
“Do you still have feelings for me?” he continued.
She looked up. “You know I do.”
“That’s all I need to know.” He leaned in and tenderly kissed her lips. Without realising it, Ulva put her hands around his neck.

When they finally released each other, they were both flustered and breathing hard.
Carlos stroked her cheek. “I’m going home now. I need to tell her.”
“She’s gonna kill me.” Ulva groaned.
“No, she won’t. I’m not gonna tell her about you. There is no reason she should now.” He kissed her one last time. “I’ll be back soon, Querida.”

“Goodbye, Chérie.” Seb watched Ana’s ashes whirling in the wind. He stood on the little square that looked out on the Eifel Tower. They always came here to talk whenever one of them had a problem. And now they were back here.
Seb touched the pendant with her ashes. “I’ll never forget you.”

Later that afternoon, he boarded the plane to the Cayman Islands. He was nervous and his hands were shaking when he attached his seatbelt. He couldn’t wait to see Sophia again. He hadn’t called her because he wanted to surprise her. He just hoped he would find her.

Lorna and David lined up in front of the customs office.
“I hope this isn’t taking too long. I want to get this over with as soon as possible.” He sighed.
“I know.” Lorna squeezed his hand. “And then we can put this behind us and start our own life.”
“Next!”
David handed their passports to the officer and winked at Lorna.

The man looked at the passports, looked at them and back at the passports. “One minute, please.”
David frowned. “Is there a problem?”
“Just a minute.” The guy walked over to a colleague and handed him the passports. The other guy looked into the computer and pointed something out. After some talking, the two of them mentioned two other colleagues to come over and they came back to Lorna and David.

“Officer, what is…?”
David was interrupted abruptly when one of the guys handcuffed him. “Mr Miller, you are arrested for kidnapping.”
“What? He didn’t kidnap anyone!” Lorna said.
“I’m sorry, Miss Carter, put your parents filled in charges.” An officer said.
“My parents? But David didn’t kidnap me! We got married! He’s my husband!!!!” Lorna yelled.
“This is ridiculous. Let me go!” David said.
“Take him away.” The officer demanded.
“Call Simon!” David yelled at Lorna.

Tears ran down her cheeks when she pulled out her mobile. She dialled Simon’s number and he answered almost immediately.
“Simon, it’s Lorna. They arrested David.”
“What???” Simon jumped up from behind his desk. “What happened?”
“My parents filled charges for kidnapping. I don’t know what to do…” she sobbed.
“Ok, sweetheart. Calm down. I’ll check it out and send a lawyer. Get to a hotel immediately and call me back. And don’t worry, we’ll get him out.” Simon said.

Lorna gathered their luggage, jumped in a cab and checked into a hotel. She couldn’t believe this was happening. How could her parents do this to her?

Chapter 39: Breaking up…

“Where the hell have you been?” Sabrina yelled when Carlos opened the door to the living room.
He looked at Patricia. “Patricia, I need to speak to Sabrina in private. Would you mind leaving?”
“She’s not going anywhere!” Sabrina said angrily.
“If that is what you want.” Carlos shrugged. “Sabrina, this is not working. What we have, is not what I except in a relationship. I’m sorry, but the wedding is off.”

Before he could blink, Sabrina’s hand slapped his cheek. “Bastard! You can’t do this to me!”
He grabbed her wrist. ”I just did. I’ll take my stuff and leave.”
When he walked up the stairs, he heard glass breaking. He knew that Sabrina loved to make a scene, but he was not giving in this time.

He quickly gathered his clothes and looked at the picture of the night stand. It was taken not long after they got engaged. He should have realised it back then. The look in Sabrina’s eyes, the fake smile and the way she had her hand on his chest, ready to push him away.
“I’ve been such a fool.” He whispered.

Patricia waited for him when he came down again. “You do realise the press will love this?”
“Is that the way she’s gonna play it? Tell her that I will sue her for slander if she says anything that isn’t true.” He said firmly.
“You’re an idiot, Carlos.” She shook her head.
“You’re right. I’m an idiot for not seeing what she was really like. Goodbye, Patricia.” He took his suitcase and slammed the door behind him.

“Get over there as soon as you can and make sure the press doesn’t hear a word of it!” Simon stated.
He saw Carlos standing in the door and mentioned him to come in.
“Call me when you know more.” He nodded at Carlos. “Sit down. I just need to make one more phone call and then I’m all yours.” He dialled the familiar number and smiled. “Bridget, I’m sorry to call you so late, but I really need you. … Ok, thanks. See you soon.”

Simon sank in his chair and looked at the Spaniard. “Carlos? What can I do for you?”
“I broke up with Sabrina.” He said.
“Finally some good news!” Simon chuckled when he saw the look on Carlos’ face. “I’m sorry, Carlos, but she wasn’t exactly what you call a nice woman.”
Carlos sighed. “I know. But I’m afraid she’ll run to the press.”
“Yeah… I’ll deal with that when Bridget gets here.” He shook his head. “What a mess lately. First Seb who gets married head over heals, David who got arrested and now this.”

Carlos sat up straight. “David got arrested? Ok, Simon… Talk to me.”
Simon told him the whole story.
“Dios! Kidnapping! Those parents are loco!” Carlos shook his head.
“I hope we can solve this soon! The tour starts again next week!” Simon sighed.

5 minutes later, Bridget arrived.
“Hi Simon. Carlos! I didn’t expect to see you here.”
“Sit down, Bridget. I need your help on a few things.” Simon smiled.

After he told her everything, she looked at Carlos. “Well, that sure is a surprise.”
“It was about time I did that.” He said.
She nodded. “Yeah… Maybe you should post an announcement on the forum yourself before she has the chance to run to the press.”
“I don’t know if I want the fans to know about this…” he said hesitantly.
“I think Bridget is right. If she decides to go to the press after all, they will know in no time. And the gossip…” Simons sighed.
“I’ll help you.” Bridget smiled.
“And make a short press release too. Just in case she tries something.” Simon nodded.

An hour later, Carlos message appeared.

“Hello everybody.
Just a quick message to say that the engagement with my fiancée is off. I don’t want to go into any details, because they are not important at this time, but if necessary I will defend my actions in having broken up with my ex-fiancée.
I just hope that with the continued support of the fans, whom I know will not believe the slanderous gossip that may come out, we can all move past this and look forward to another great year of Il Divo music.
Carlos”

Lorna didn’t want to wait for Simon’s call and took a cab to her parents’ house. She walked into the kitchen and four people looked up.
“Lorna!” her mother hugged her. “Thank god you’re alright!”
“Of course I am! Why did you file charges against David? He didn’t do anything wrong!” she said.
“You weren’t answering our phone calls or didn’t call back. And you weren’t at your apartment.” Jamie said.
“You’re spying on me?” she shook her head. “No, I wasn’t at my apartment and I didn’t answer your calls because David and I got married.”
“What?” Daniel jumped up. “Are you completely out of you mind?”
Her father shook his head. “I can’t believe you did that Lorna-Jane.”
“I love him, Dad. I love him with all my heart and I don’t want anything to do with this stupid feud. And if you meet him, you’ll see what a great guy he is.” She smiled.
“Meet him?” Jamie shook his head. “We don’t want to meet him.”
Her mother nodded. “I agree.”
“Mum!” Lorna couldn’t believe her ears.
“I’m sorry but that’s the way it is. Leave him or leave our house.” Daniel said.

Lorna picked up her purse and without another word she left. Tears ran down her cheeks when she walked out. But she didn’t look back once.

Chapter 40: Overwhelm

“We bailed him out. He’s on his way to the hotel.”
“Thanks, Simon.” Lorna said.
“So what did your parents say?” he asked.
She sighed. “They are really mad. But I don’t care! I’m not giving him up. I love him, Simon.”
“I’m glad to hear you say that. Our lawyer will talk to your parents. I hope they don’t press charges, cause that would be really bad publicity!” Simon said.
“I know. I’m really sorry about all this, Simon.” Lorna said quietly.
“It’s not your fault. Don’t worry about it.”

When David finally arrived, Lorna flung herself in his arms. “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry!”
“It’s ok, Babe. I know it’s not your fault.” He smiled sadly.
“I tried to talk to them, but they won’t have anything to do with you. They threw me out of the house. I didn’t sleep all night because I was so worried about you!” She sobbed.

David held her tight. “Oh sweetheart… I guess it’s just you and me now. But we’ll get through this.” He kissed her forehead. “But I really want to take a shower now, eat something and sleep the rest of the day. Believe me, jail is no fun at all!”
“I’ll order some breakfast.” Lorna nodded.
Before he disappeared in the bathroom, he turned around again. “I really love you, Lorna. And nothing will change that.”

When Seb waited for a cab at the airport, he saw the advertisement for a charity golf tournament.
“High Land Enterprises presents…”
“Sophia…” he whispered. He took a closer look and saw that the tournament was held that afternoon.

Tom stood at the entrance of the golf courts to welcome the guests. He took a deep breath and his eyes darkened when he saw Seb. Wasn’t that the guy who broke Sophia’s heart? He had lost weight and look tired, but it was him.
For a minute he was happy that Sophia wasn’t there. She hadn’t been feeling well for a few days and Tom made her stay at home. He was glad she did now. And if she would have seen Seb, it could have caused troubles in their relationship. He knew she still thought about him.

Tom shook his hand. “Welcome, Mr Izambard.”
“You know who I am?” Seb frowned.
“Yes. I went to your concert in New York. I’m Tom Brady.” Tom nodded.
“Oh, Nice to meet you. I saw the advertisement and I thought….” He shrugged.
Tom smiled. “Well, I’m glad you came. We need another player. André Agassi just cancelled.”
“I’m not really good at this.” Seb hesitated.
“It’s just for fun. And we have a game were people put money on how far you can play the ball. You can participate in that.” Tom insisted.
“Oh… Alright then.” Seb nodded. “So, is Mrs Garner here?”
Tom shook his head. “No, she isn’t. She called in sick.”
“Too bad.”
Tom led Seb to one of the courts and introduced him to some of the other celebrities. When he saw he was in good hands, he sneaked off to make a phone call.

“Hi sweet pea. How are you feeling?” Tom asked.
“I’m much better. How are things over there? You want me to come over?”
“No, you rest. Honey…” he hesitated. “Sebastien is here.”
Sophia gasped. “What? Seb? What is he…? Why?”
“I don’t know. He arrived at the tournament and I asked him to stay. You want to see him? Maybe we can have dinner together.” Tom suggested.
“No! I can’t! I don’t want to see him.”
“I’m ok with it, sweet pea. If you want to see him, it’s no problem with me.” Tom said tenderly.
Sophia sighed. “No, Tom. Please. You are my husband. He’s my past.”
“Ok. I’ll be home around 8h.” he said. “I love you.”
“Love you too.” Sophia hung up and had to sit down. She was dizzy again. Seb… What was he doing there? And was his wife with him? She couldn’t face him. She just couldn’t.

She looked at Snowflake, their white Maltese, who came running in. Tom had bought her 2 weeks ago because she was feeling so sick. She picked up the puppy and buried her nose in her fur. “Oh Snowflake…What am I gonna do?”

Bridget was about to go into the bathroom, when she heard the shower running. Suddenly the image of a naked Urs intruded her mind.
”Oh come on! Get a grip!” she scolded.
This was crazy! She wanted to take it easy, but it was so hard. Him sleeping in the room next to her, showering in the same shower as she did, and every time he kissed her she was lost. There was no way she could escape him. He was everywhere!

“Want to come in?”
She jumped when she heard him behind her.
“Ehm… I wanted to…” Bridget swallowed when she looked at him. He had a towel around his waist, but she could still see the drops of water on his chest.
Urs sniggered. “The shower is all yours.”
“Thanks.” She blushed.

Urs turned around but before he entered his room, the towel fell at his feet. Bridget saw his tight ass and let out a small moan. She heard him chuckle just before he closed the door.
“Damn, you Bühler!” she yelled before slamming the bathroom door.
Urs smiled. He knew she was getting weak. The look in her eyes told him everything he needed to know.

He took his boxers from the drawer and suddenly he thought about how he had organised all of her lingerie. The black lacy bra and the satin one… Suddenly another image invaded his mind. Bridget stripping and getting under the hot water…
“Oh God…” he groaned. How much longer was he gonna be able to control himself? All he wanted to do was take her in his arms and make love to her all night long.

He heard her turning off the shower and emerged from his room. When she opened the door, he shoved her out and slammed it behind him.
“Hey!” Bridget said.
She heard the water running again and grinned. They were even.

Chapter 41: Marriages

“I’m sorry, Sabrina.” Ulva brought her finger to her lips to warn Carlos to be quiet. “Can’t you work it out?”
Carlos rolled his eyes and Ulva had to stifle her laughter.
“Of course you’re not a bad person.”
Carlos raised an eyebrow.
“Yes, men can be pigs sometimes.” She giggled when she saw the look on Carlos’ face.
“Ok. I’ll do that. I’ll talk to you soon.”

“Carlos!” she slapped his arm.
“Men can be pigs? You’re not a bad person?” he pulled her in his arms. “That’s an understatement.”
“She wants me to send you the bill.”
“Go ahead. I’ll send it on to her.” He kissed her gently. “I love you, Ulva. I can’t believe I was so stupid to get engaged to that… woman.”
“I’m glad you’re not marrying her.” She said softly.
“Me too!”
“So everyone knows?” she asked.
Carlos nodded. “I posted a message on the forum, Simon sent something to the press and I’ll tell the guys when I see them. But now…” he kissed her again. “I just want to enjoy your company.”
“What about your parents?” she asked, pulling back a little.
“I’ll talk to them. I’m not letting you go a second time. Even if it means I have to elope like David did.” He smiled.
“I love you, Carlos.”
“I love you too, Querida.” His mouth covered hers and he gently picked her up and carried her to the bedroom.

Seb walked over the beach. He wanted to go and visit Sophia. When he came to the house, he saw it was abandoned. He looked through the windows, but couldn’t see a thing inside. No furniture… She was gone…

“Can I help you, sir?”
A woman stood under the stairs, so he quickly went down.
“I’m looking for Miss Garner. I’m an old friend.” He smiled.
“Sophia? She doesn’t live here anymore. She and her husband bought a house a bit down the road.” The woman smiled.
Seb frowned. “Her husband?”
“Yes, Tom Brady. They got married a day before her father died. The poor man never told her he was dying.” The woman shook her head. “Anyway… She lives at number 16 if you want to visit her.”
“Thank you.” Seb nodded.

After the woman had left, he went to their hiding place under the stairs and sat down. He couldn’t believe it. She was married! And to the man he met just a few hours ago. But why? Was it revenge? He thought she loved him. But if she had, she would have waited for him.

He thought back about the kisses they had shared, the picnic under the stars, the dancing, the photo’s, the walks in the moonlight… He loved her so very much and now he had lost her a second time.

“Merde!” His hand slammed the sand and he felt something. It was a pearl bracelet. Was it hers? His fingers softly touched it. “Oh Sophia…”
Soft footsteps made him look up. There she was… The woman he loved.

“Ready?” David squeezed Lorna’s hand.
She took a deep breath and nodded.
David led her to the living room where both of his parents were. His mother was knitting, while his father was reading the papers.
“David.” Peter stood up and shook his hand. “Great to see you again. And you must be Lorna-Jane. Nice to meet you.”
“Nice to meet you too, Mr Miller.” She greeted him.

“Mum.”
Barbra looked up. Her eyes angry and disappointed. “I told you you weren’t welcome here anymore. And now you bring her in our house.”
“Mum, Lorna and I got married. She’s my wife now.” David said.
“What?” Barbra stood up. “How could you?”
Her husband touched her arm. “Don’t. If this is what he wants… What they want… Then we have to accept it. Barbra, look at them. Can’t you see that they love each other? Besides… He is our son. No matter what.”

David smiled at his father. “Thanks, Dad. Yes, we love each other very much. And we want to put an end to this stupid feud.”
Brabra shook her head. “I don’t agree with this. But your dad is right. We might not agree with your decisions, but family always sticks together, so…” she swallowed and shook Lorna’s hand. “Welcome.”
“Thank you, Mrs Miller. I promise that I won’t hurt David. I love him very much.” She said seriously.
“You might love him…. But your family will never accept him.” Barbra smiled sadly.

Chapter 42: Catching up with the past

“No! This can’t be true!!!!” Sophia rummaged through her jewellery box. “Where is it???”
Tears sprung in her eyes while she looked for her pearl bracelet. “No… please… Not daddy’s bracelet!”
She took a deep breath. “Ok, think… When did I wear it… Of course! The beach!”

She came out of her room and almost tripped over Snowflake. “I’m sorry, Sweetie! Angela, I’m going out to look for something. Won’t be long!”
“Ok!” the maid called out.

Sophia hurried down the beach to her old hiding place. She prayed it would be there. When she ducked under the stairs, she almost fainted.

“Seb…” Sophia couldn’t believe her eyes. “What are you doing here?”
“I…” he stood up. “Ana died a few days ago and… I wanted to see you. I needed to. I love you, Sophia.”
“I came to look for my bracelet. I must have lost it somewhere and I thought…” she didn’t look at him.
Seb handed it to her. “I found it. Sophia, please…”
“I’m married, Seb.” She said softly.
He nodded. “So I heard. Why? Was it revenge? I love you, Sophia! I came back for you! I want to be with you. Love you…”
“Don’t! No, it wasn’t revenge. It was…” she sighed. “It was my fathers’ last wish. He died a few hours after Tom and I got married.”
“I’m sorry.” Seb took her hands. “But you don’t love him. Like I didn’t love Ana. I did, but as a friend. Not as a wife.”
She shook her head. “I do love him, Seb.”

“Chérie… It sounds to me like an arranged wedding. Like the one I had. I don’t blame you and we can work out something.” Seb took her in his arms and gently kissed her.
At first Sophia was too stunned to do anything. And she had to admit that it felt great. But suddenly she pushed him away.
“I can’t… It’s not right… I love Tom!” she sobbed and ran away.
“Sophia!” Seb yelled and ran after her. “Wait! Please! I love you!”

Seb sank down on his knees and sobbed uncontrollable. What was he doing? But hen he remembered Ana’s words. “I want you to be happy. … I want you to promise me that you’ll love someone with everything you have, Seb. … I know you love her, Seb. Go to Sophia. Tell her what you feel. You only have one life to live and it's to short to waste on what could have been."
“You’re right.” He whispered. “I’ll give her time.”

Sophia ran back to the house and stopped at the front door to wipe away her tears. Why did he come back? She loved Tom now. It was too late.
When she opened the door, she saw the lights were on and knew Tom was home.
“Hi sweet pea.” He greeted her when she entered the living room.
“Hi. How was your day?” she tried to sound happy, but failed.
Tom frowned and came to her, gently taking her in his arms. “What’s wrong? Are you feeling sick again?”
“No, I’m fine. I…” she couldn’t hold back her tears.
“Sweetie…”

His tender voice made it even worse. She clung to him and let her tears flow. His soothing voice and hands made her finally calm down.
“I’m sorry. It’s just…” she looked up and his green eyes showed his love for her. “I thought I lost the bracelet my dad gave me. I found him on the beach.”
“Oh sweet pea…” Tom kissed her forehead.
“God! When did I turn into such an emotional wreck?” she grinned.
“It’s ok, Baby. I guess Seb being back…”
Sophia claimed his mouth. “Shut up and make love to me. I need you.”
Tom chuckled and picked her up. “Gladly!”

On their way to the bedroom, they slammed against the wall in the hall. The little table nearby shook and the Chinese vase fell on the ground. Snowflake squealed and ran to shelter. She knew her bosses were getting rowdy again. By the time they got to the bedroom, the buttons of Tom’s shirt were all gone and Sophia’s dress was torn in two. They looked at each other and grinned.

“I’ll buy you a new dress.” Tom said.
“Just get on with it.” Sophia said and shoved him onto the bed. He toppled over backwards but managed to bring her down with him. Her breasts were flat against his hard chest and they were both breathing heavy as he snaked an arm around her neck and licked the base of her ear sensually. "I love you Sophia Garner-Brady." he whispered in her ear.
She shivered once and looked into his eyes. She couldn't doubt his words as she kissed him hard, with all the love she had in her, "I love you Thomas Edward Brady. I always will." she promised and let him take her to heaven.

Chapter 43: Temptation

Bridget came home after an exhausting day. The press had called them constantly about Carlos break up, the lawyers were trying to solve David’s problems and Seb… There was no word about him.

She hung up her coat and sniffed. Something smelled good.
“Good evening!” Urs greeted her.
For a minute she didn’t move. The dining table was set with the best China, candles were lit and soft jazz music was playing. And Urs was all dressed up. He looked incredible handsome in his black pants and dark red shirt. He had his sleeves rolled up and a towel was tucked in his pants.
“What’s all this?” she asked.
“Dinner. I thought it would be nice after a hard day’s work.” He smiled.
“It is! Do I have time for a quick shower?” she asked.
Urs bowed. “Of course, Fraulein. By the time you get back, the oysters will be served.”

Oysters… Bridget grinned. It looked like Urs was trying to get to her again. But two could play that game. After her shower, she stood in front of her wardrobe and took out a white dress Ingrid bought for her. She would never wear anything like it, but this was the perfect opportunity.

Urs swallowed when Bridget came back in. Her white strappy dress clung her body and it was obvious that she wasn’t wearing a bra. The skirt just covered her bum and the deep v plunged down till just above her belly button. When he held out her chair for her, he saw the dress didn’t have a back and he groaned.

“Did you say something?” she asked sweetly.
“No…” he handed her a tray with oysters.
“Thanks.” She took one and brought the shell to her mouth. Her tongue slipped out when the oyster slipped in her mouth.
Urs was just opening a bottle of wine, but at the sensual sight in front of him, he lost control. The cork popped out and the wine sprayed all over his shirt.

Bridget handed him a towel. “You better take that off and put it in the washing machine.” She thought about how she wanted to lick the little drops of his face, but shook her head. Not again!
Urs grabbed her wrist and felt her racing pulse. He slowly dipped his head as if he was gonna kiss her wrist. He heard her sharp intake of breath and let go of her.
“I guess you’re right.” He slowly unbuttoned his shirt.

Bridget tried to look away, but the sight of his muscular chest made her breathing hard. Urs stifled his laugh and blinky winked at her before standing up and walking to his room.
“God….” She filled her glass and slammed it down at once. This wasn’t fair!
But she lost it even more when Urs reappeared in a tight-fitting white button down shirt. He left the top three buttons undone like Seb and Carlos always did. The sprinkles of chest hair drew her eyes to them.

During the salad and lobster bisque soup, it was Bridget who kept teasing him. Every time she reached over the table to grab something, his eyes were drawn to her cleavage. He forgot what he was saying and began to stammer. And every time, she smiled sweetly at him.

As soon as Urs served the main dish, he knew he was in trouble.
“I love lobster!” she exclaimed.
“I’m glad.” he smiled, but his smile faded when she licked the butter of her finger tips. Very slowly, one by one…
Urs swallowed hard and shifted in his chair. This was pure torture.

Bridget wanted to take the dishes to the kitchen, but Urs stopped her. “You’re not doing anything tonight. Just relax.” He kissed the top of her head. “I’ll get dessert.”
“Dessert…” her mind thought about something else for dessert. She was so tempted to unbutton that shirt and stroked his broad chest.

She looked up when Urs placed the chocolate mousse in front of her. “Enjoy.”
“Thanks.”
While they ate, their eyes met and neither of them looked away. Urs took her hand and laced his fingers with hers. “Tease.”
“Look who’s talking.” She smiled.
“We’re a fine pair, aren’t we?” he grinned.
Bridget nodded.

“Coffee?” Urs asked.
“No, thanks. I think I’ll pass. It was a long day.” She yawned.
“Go to bed. I’ll do the dishes.”
She kissed him lightly. “Thank you. It was great.”
“You’re welcome, sweetie.” He took the dishes to the kitchen and leaned heavily on the sink. It had been great, but hell as well. He was crazy about that woman! And she kept teasing him.

Suddenly he felt her arms around him and she stroked his chest. He turned around and faced her. She sighed when she took the sponge of soapy water from his hand and squeezed it hard, sending water all over his shirt. "You really think I would end the evening like that?" she asked provocatively and Urs smiled.
The look in her eyes was one of pure love and he held on to that as he slowly dipped his head and tenderly kissed her. "I love you Bridget."
“I love you too." she began to unbutton his wet shirt, and giggled as she remembered the look of shook on his face. "I wanted to do that all night." she admitted and Urs smiled as her fingers brushed against him.
He didn't expect her to lean forward and lick his nipples and the sensation had him gasping for air, her smile was pure evil.
“I thought you were tired.” he asked when he was finally able to talk and Bridget shook her head.
“Not that tired.” she blinky winked back at him and Urs felt his knees nearly give out.

With whatever he had left in him he swept her up in his arms and carried her over to the bedroom.
"I can walk" she protested and he quickly shut her up with a long hard kiss that left them both breathless.
"Make love to me." she begged him as he was kissing her every piece of exposed flesh. She tasted so good, like honey and milk and he couldn't deny her that simple request.
"Anything you wish." he replied and took her to heaven... several times.

The tenderness and love surprised both of them. Urs held her tight afterwards. He couldn’t think straight, nor talk. When he looked at her, he knew she felt the same. A lonely tear ran down her cheek and Urs kissed it away. They both realised that this was what they had been waiting and hoping for all these years. True love.

Chapter 44: Lovers

Urs woke up with a smile. The memories of last night still flooded his mind and he pulled the woman he loved a little closer. Love… It had been a long time since he had felt something like this. He felt her stir and gently kissed her lips. “Morning, Liebling.”
“Morning.” She whispered as she nuzzled against his neck.
“Last night was amazing.” His hand stroked her bare shoulder and he felt her tremble beneath his touch.
She nodded. “Yes, it was.”
He showered her face with little kisses. “Do you have to work today?” The kisses left her shaking with need.
“I don’t really have to go to the office, but I do have some work.” She smiled against his tasting lips, licking them as he tried to pull away.
“But that can wait.” Urs flipped her on her back and she screamed in delight.
He giggled as she tried to move away, backing up until she was practically sitting on the headboard. His grin was lascivious and she loved it. Why had they waited this long to do this?

Carlos woke up in an empty bed. “Querida?”
He stumbled out and put on his boxers. He found Ulva in the living room, starring out of the window.
“I thought you didn’t want to go home because of the paparazzi?” she said.
He nodded. “Si.”
“Well… take a look outside…”

Carlos frowned and stood next to her. “Dios…”
The boardwalk in front of Ulva’s house was full of men with cameras.
“I guess you’re stuck here.” she said.
He shook his head. ”But how did they find me?”
“Your car, maybe?”
He grinned when he looked at the black sports car on her driveway. “Ah si…”

“I got to work today! What if Sabrina finds out? I’m never gonna be able to work as a wedding planner again!” Ulva threw her hands in the air.
“Querida...”
“If I go out there, it’ll be all over the papers tomorrow.” She fumed.
Carlos pulled her in his arms. “Maybe you should stay in as well. I’m sure I can entertain you.”
“Very funny! This is all a big mistake. I should never have…” she sighed.
“What? Slept with me?”
“Carlos, my job is important to me. And I don’t want to be the reason of your break up. I know I am… partly, but… What a mess!” she wanted to walk away, but Carlos stopped her.
“I love you, Ulva.”
“I don’t know if I can do this.” She shook her head.
Carlos looked intently at her. “Ulva, do you love me?”
“Yes, but…”
“Then we can get through this.” He smiled.
He grabbed her as she walked through the hall. “Come back to bed with me.”
“Is that all you can think off?” she opened the front door and pushed him out.

“Ulva!!!” Carlos furiously knocked on the front door.
“Carlos! Mr Marin! Any comment on your break up with Miss Ellison?” the reporters camera’s flashed and he groaned.

He quickly spurted to the side of the house and jumped over the little fence. When he heard the ripping of fabric he knew he was in even more trouble and he fell flat on his face when his boxers got stuck on the fence. The reporters kept taking pictures and he heard them laugh out loud. He cursed in Spanish and ran over the lawn to the back door. “Ulva! Let me in! Now!!!!”

She blushed when she opened the door. “God, I’m sorry!”
“Simon is gonna kill me if I appear in my naked butt on the first page!!!!”
“Oh Carlos, they won’t… And even if they would… It’s a very nice butt.” she giggled.
“Dios!!! What a mess!” he turned around and jumped when Ulva slapped his butt.
“Sorry. I couldn’t resist.” She giggled.
Carlos took a step forward, swept her in his arms and carried her to the bedroom.
“I got to work!!!!” she tried to get away but he was too strong.
“I guess you’ll be late.” Carlos claimed her mouth and neither of them thought about anything else for a long time.

Tom smiled when Sophia stumbled in the kitchen. Her hair was messed up and she wore his shirt. “Morning, sweet pea.”
“Morning.” She grinned. “You’re up early! And on a Saturday!”
“I have to go to New York. They called me an hour ago. Some kind of emergency.” He kissed her tenderly.
“Why didn’t you wake me?”
“Because you looked so sweet.” He smiled.
She sipped her orange juice. “You want me to come? Give me half an hour and…”
“No, it’s ok. I’ll be back tonight. Or tomorrow at the latest.” He picked up his briefcase and kissed her one last time. “I love you, Sophia.”
“I love you too. Call me if you need help.”
“I will.” He waved and walked out.
