Chapter 60: Wedding preparations

2 days for Urs’ wedding, the whole gang went to Belgium. Indre, Lorna and Laura came to pick them up. Lorna and Laura immediately hugged their guy, but Indre kept her distance.

When David smiled and extended his hand, she sighed and hugged him tight.
“I missed you.” She whispered.
“I missed you too, Hun.” David raised her chin and gently kissed her.
“Can we go? I’m tired.” Steph took David’s hand.
Indre bit her lip. Nothing had changed.

“I’m so glad you’re all here.” Laura smiled when Urs released her.
“We don’t want to miss the wedding of the century.” Carlos teased.
She laughed. “Well, there will be a lot of people, but no press. I specifically asked my parents.”
Urs squeezed her hand. “Good. Not that I don’t want them to know, but… It’s our day.”

Carlos, David and the kids stayed at a hotel. David had promised Indre to come by when Steph was in bed.
Seb and Urs went with Lorna and Laura.

It was late when David finally arrived at Indre’s. “I’m sorry. Steph is so excited about the wedding and…” he shrugged.
Indre didn’t answer him. She didn’t want to get in another fight.
“Let’s just get to bed. You look tired.” Indre said.
He hugged her. “Not too tired to make love to you.”
David picked her up and carried her to the bedroom.

Indre looked at the sleeping David. She loved him so much and it felt so great when they were together. But why did she have the feeling she was loosing him?

The next day, Laura went to visit Mrs Geeraerts. The butler showed her to one of the salons.
“Goedemiddag, Nonna.” Laura kissed her on the cheek.
“Laura, sweetheart! I’m so glad you came. Come, sit with me.” She patted on the chair next to her. “So, are you nervous for tomorrow?”
“Yes, a little.” Laura admitted.
“Well, that’s normal, but there is no reason. Urs is a very kind man and you have nothing to be afraid of.” Annie smiled.
“I know. And I love him very much. I never thought I would meet someone like him.” Laura said.
The old lady smiled. “He reminds me of my husband.” She took two velvet boxes that were on the table and handed one of them to Laura. “I want you to have this, Laura. And it would mean a lot to me if you would wear it tomorrow.”

Laura opened the box and gasped. Inside was a pearl necklace and matching earrings.

“Nonna! It’s beautiful!”
Annie smiled. “I wore this on my wedding day. And so did my mother.”
“I can’t accept this. It’s…”
Annie took her hand. “Laura, I always considered you as a granddaughter. I never had children, so I have no one to give this too. Please wear this.”
“I will.” Laura nodded. “Thank you so much. It means a lot.”
Annie handed her the other box. “This goes with it.”
Laura opened it as well. “Oh my… Nonna! It will suit my dress perfectly!” She looked at the tiara.

“Thank you so much!” she hugged the old lady with tears in her eyes.
“Be happy, Laura. And enjoy every day together.”
“I will, Nonna. I will!” she smiled.

That night Laura went to her apartment to pick up her things. She was spending the night at her parents with Lorna, Indre, Cyd and the children. The guys were staying with Urs.
Urs stood in the door of her bedroom. When she looked up, he smiled. “Tomorrow we are married, Liebling.”
“I know. Oh Urs, I can’t wait.”
He gently hugged her. “Me neither. I can’t wait to be with you every single day.”
“I’m nervous.” She softly said.
“Why is that? You do know I’ll be there, right?” he smiled.
She looked at him. “Yes, I know. It’s just… I don’t know that much about relationships or living with someone. I don’t want to disappoint you.”
“Liebling, you will never disappoint me. I love you so much, Laura. We can do this. And I’ll help you. That’s what marriage is about. Doing things together and supporting each other.” He held her tight.
“I love you, Urs.”
“Thank God!” he laughed.

“Lovebirds, I hate to break the party, but it’s time for Laura to go. We have some men things to do!” Carlos appeared in the doorway.
Urs groaned. “Oh God!”
“I want him in one piece tomorrow!” Laura laughed.
“Don’t worry, Chérie. I’ll keep an eye on him.” Seb smiled.
David nodded. “Yeah, he’ll be fine, sweetheart.”
Laura took her overnight bag and gave Urs one last kiss. “See you tomorrow.”
“I’ll be there with bells on, Liebling.”

Chapter 61: Countdown

Laura was wide awake early the next morning. She quickly dressed in jeans and a sweater and softly left her room. When she came downstairs people were already running around to decorate the rooms.
“Goedemorgen, Laura.” Her mother greeted her. “You’re up early.”
“I couldn’t sleep.” She smiled. “I’m a little nervous.”
Her mother smiled and put her arm around her daughter’s shoulders. “There is no reason to be nervous. You want to take a look at the foyer? It’s ready.”
Laura nodded. “Yes, please.”

When her mother opened the doors, Laura gasped. The chairs for the guests and the small aisle were already in place. The room was full of flowers. Orange, pink and red roses as well as white callas were placed on the chairs, the aisle and even the walls and ceiling. Huge chandeliers stood next to the white carpet that lead to the aisle and would be lighted for the ceremony.

“Mama! It’s beautiful.” Laura whispered.
“I’m glad you like it, sweetheart.”
Laura looked at her mother. “I wish Daddy was here.”
“I know, sweetheart. Me too. But he’ll be with us today. He’ll be watching.” Monique kissed her daughter’s cheek. “Why don’t you go see if the others are awake? You can have breakfast in the dining room.”
“I will. Thanks for everything, Mama.”
“You’re very welcome.” She watched her daughter going up the stairs and smiled. She was glad that Laura had finally found someone who loved and respected her.

After breakfast, the girls went back to Laura’s room to get their hair and make-up done. When they were all finished, the girls put on their dresses.
“Right… Shall we help you get ready now?’ Lorna asked.
Laura nodded. “Yes, please.”
Indre and Lorna helped her in her dress and took a step back.

“Laura, you look beautiful!” Indre smiled
Lorna helped her with her jewellery and her veil. “Urs won’t believe his eyes.”
“I want a dress like that when I get married!” Macy stated.
Cyd smiled. “Yes, it’s an amazing dress.”
“I want to go to Uncle David.” Steph said.
“He’s not here yet. You’ll see him after the ceremony.” Indre said.
“But I want to see him now!” She stamped her foot.
Indre sighed. “You’ll just have to wait. Like all of us.”
Patricia took the girls by the hand. “Why don’t we go and take a look downstairs? Maybe we can even taste some of the delicious food.”

“Sorry about that.” Indre sighed when they had left.
“It’s ok, Hun.” Lorna smiled.
“Don’t let her get to you, Indre.” Cyd said. “She’s trying but don’t give in.”
“I know, but it’s so hard. She’s always demanding David’s attention. When she’s around I don’t exist.” A tear escaped her and Laura gently hugged her.
“He loves you, Hun. Don’t give up.”
Indre blew her nose. “I’m sorry, Laura. I don’t want to ruin your day.”
“Don’t worry about it, Hun.”

In the meantime they guys were getting ready as well.
“Did you choose this… suit?” Carlos asked, tugging his collar.
Urs grinned. “Laura and I thought it looked nice.”
The guys all wore black suits with a long black jacket and a white tie.

“I love it.” Seb said. “It’s very fancy.”
Carlos mumbled something.
“Oh Carlos… Admit that you love it!” Urs poked him in the ribs.
He turned in front of the mirror. “Well... I have to admit that it looks sexy!”
“Cyd won’t know what hit her!” Seb laughed.
“She’ll probably try it on tonight.” He wiggled his eyebrows.
David raised his hands. “Too much information, my friend!”

The bell rang and Urs looked at the others. “The car is here. Are you guys ready?”
Seb nodded. “Yes, we are. What about you? Not to nervous?”
“I’m ok. Guys, I want to thank you for being here and for supporting me on this day. It really means a lot.” Urs said seriously.
“That’s what friends are for.” David patted his back. “Now, let’s go. We don’t want to let our women wait too long!”

Chapter 62: The wedding

“Ladies, you look beautiful.” Paul smiled when he came in. He handed Patricia the box with flowers. “Where is my daughter?”
“Here she is.” Indre smiled when Laura came out of the bathroom.
“Laura! You’re beautiful!” He kissed her cheek. “Your father would have been so proud.” He whispered.
“Thank you. For everything. I am so grateful that Mum married you. I owe you so much.” She said softly.
“Your love and happiness is all I need, Sweetheart.” He looked at her. “Are you ready?”
She nodded. “Yes. Is Urs here yet?”
“He sure is.” Paul smiled.
“Let’s go then. Are you ladies ready?” Laura asked, looking at her friends.
They all nodded.
Lorna handed her bouquet and arranged her veil. “Ready?” she asked softly.
“Yes. Thank you for being my maid of honour, Lorna. It means a lot.” Laura squeezed her hand.
“You’re very welcome, Hun. I am the one that is honoured.” She hugged her. “Let’s go now.”

Urs nervously played with his tie. The others smiled at each other. They all knew he was nervous, but he had no reason whatsoever.
He looked at his family and saw his mother smiling reassuringly. He knew they agreed on his choice and that they liked Laura. And that meant a lot to him.
“Are you ready?” the priest asked.
Urs swallowed and looked at his friends. “This is it.”
The three guys gave him a brotherly hug. “It’s the best decision you ever made.” David, his best man, smiled.
“Thanks, my friend.” He turned to the priest again. “I’m ready now.”

The doors to the hallway opened and the orchestra started to play. Macy and Christina, Urs’ four year old niece, were the first ones to enter. They scattered rose leaves down the aisle and smiled brightly. Steph was next, followed by Henri and Elsie, the seven year old twins of Urs’ sister Janice. The girls were dressed in an orange coloured dress and Henri wore a white suit with an orange shirt.

Steph waved at her uncle when she sat down with the other kids.

And then the girls appeared. First Cyd, then Indre and finally Lorna. They wore a satin sculpted strapless orange dress with small buttons down the back and over the trumpet skirt.

Their bouquet was made of white and red roses and a single pink one in the middle.
The guys beamed when they saw their lovely ladies walking down the aisle. Seb smiled at Lorna. They would be next and he could hardly wait.

When the orchestra played the Bridal March, all the guests rose. Urs took a deep breath and turned to look at his bride. When Laura entered the room, he forgot how to breathe. She looked so beautiful. Her long hair was done up and a tiara held her veil in place.

She wore a satin, strapless a-line gown with a sweetheart neckline. The waist was gathered off-centre with a large diamond-shaped pin. The back was covered with buttons from the top of the bodice to the end of the semi-cathedral train. Her bouquet was made out of white callas and pink roses.

When she walked down the aisle, her eyes never left his. He saw the unshed tears shimmering and he had to swallow hard to keep his emotions in control.
Her stepfather led her to the aisle and smiled at Urs when they reached him.

The priest looked at the couple in front of him and smiled. “On this day of love, we are gathered here to join this man and woman in marriage. Who gives this woman away?”
“Her mother and I do.” Paul smiled and kissed Laura’s cheek. “Good luck, Laura. I know that he will make you happy.”
He shook Urs’ hand and gently placed Laura’s hand on top of it.

Urs felt her tremble. “I love you.” He mouthed.
She smiled and kept looking at him while the ceremony started. It was an emotional service and the mothers had a hard time not to cry. When it was time to say their vows, Urs took Laura’s hands.

“My dearest Laura. The day I met you, my life changed. From the first moment, you had captured my heart. I was lost when I looked in your eyes. And every day I spend with you, I felt like I was coming home. I have never loved a woman like I love you. You are my day and my night, my soul mate, the woman I want to spend the rest of my life with.
I love you, Laura, with heart, body and soul and I belong to you, from now till eternity.”

Laura couldn’t hold back her tears. Her voice trembled when she said her own vows.
“Urs. I never thought I would marry someone like you. Ever since I met you, I feel like I’m living a dream. You showed me how beautiful love is and what’s like to be loved by someone. And I can’t thank you enough for that. I can’t wait to spend the rest of our lives together and to have children of our own who we can give our love to.
I love you, Urs, with heart, body and soul and I belong to you, from now till eternity.”

David looked at Indre and saw her wiping away her tears. His heart tugged. He loved her so much, but lately they only seemed to be fighting. He smiled at her and when he met her eyes, she smiled back and mouthed “I love you”.
Carlos grinned when he saw the tears on Cyd’s cheeks. She always pretended to be the though one, but deep down she was so sensitive. He winked at her and she blushed.
Lorna looked at Seb, who discretely blew his nose. She smiled while she wiped away her own tears. She couldn’t wait till they got married. She loved him so much and there love became stronger every day.

David handed Urs Laura’s wedding ring, and with trembling hands he slipped it on her finger.

“Take this ring as a symbol of my love.” He said softly.
Laura did the same and repeated those words.

When the ceremony finished, the priest smiled at the couple. “It’s my pleasure to declare you, husband and wife. You may kiss your bride.”
Slowly, Urs raised her veil. He tenderly touched her face. “My princess.” He whispered and looked her in the eyes. When their lips touched, nothing else mattered anymore. They were married and would be together for the rest of their lives.
Urs tasted her salt tears and gently wiped them away. “Ich liebe dich, Laura.”
“I love you too.” She whispered.
Urs tugged her hand in the bend of his arm and they slowly walked out of the room while the guests applauded.

Chapter 63: The reception

After the guests had congratulated the happy couple, they were brought to the beautifully decorated dining room. Huge chandeliers stood on the tables and flowers were all over the place.

Urs and Laura finally had a moment for themselves.
“You look so beautiful, Liebling.” He smiled.
She blushed. “I’m glad you like it.”
“I do. I’m so happy right now. I can’t believe I got married to such a beautiful woman.” He gently touched her face.
“Oh Urs… I love you so much. So very much.”
He tenderly kissed her and pulled her close. They stood there for a while, until Laura’s stepfather interrupted them.
“I’m sorry, but the guests are waiting.” He smiled.
Urs nodded. “Let’s go, Frau Bühler.”
“That’s right. I’m your wife now.” Laura laughed.
“You sure are, Liebling.”

Paul opened the doors to the dining room. “Ladies and gentlemen… Here they are, Urs and Laura Bühler!”
The guests applauded while the couple walked to their table. Urs held her chair and sat down beside her, taking her hand. They couldn’t keep their eyes from each other during diner. Everyone could see the love they shared.

And then it was time to cut the cake.

They fed each other small bits and chuckled when Cyd fed Carlos and the cream ended on his nose. Seb and Lorna stood with their arms around each other.
“It will be our turn soon, Chérie. Did you think of a date yet?” he asked.
Lorna nodded. “I would love to get married in the summer. Somewhere in July or August.”
“We’ll pick a date tomorrow.” Seb said and kissed her softly.

“Are you ready for our first dance?” Urs asked when he saw the guys lining up in front of the room.
Laura nodded. “Yes. I’ve been waiting all day for it.”
Urs smiled and led Laura to the middle of the room. He turned her to face the guys and nodded at Seb.

Seb looked at the happy couple. “Dear Laura. For your first dance, Urs choose a song that he thought would be perfect. He told me that he saw you cry the first time you heard it. And at that moment he realised that you were the one he wanted to be with for the rest of his life. Especially for you, Hasta Mi Final.”

Laura gasped. “Oh Urs…”
“I want you to consider this song as our song.” He said and they began to sway to the music. While the guys were singing, Urs sang along and whispered the words to Laura. By the end of the song she was in tears again.
“Why do you always make me cry?” she asked, laughing when he handed her a handkerchief.
“As long as those are happy tears you’re crying…” he smiled and kissed her tenderly.
She nodded. “I love you so much, Urs.”

Urs brought her back to her chair while the other guests hit the dance floor. A few minutes later, Peter came to her. “Mrs Geeraerts is leaving and wants to say goodbye, Laura.”

“Of course.” She stood up and went to the hallway with Urs’ hand in hers.

“There they are!” Annie extended her hands to Laura. “Sweetheart, you looked like a princess today.”
“Thanks, Nonna. And thank you for coming.” Laura kneeled next to the old lady.
Annie squeezed her hands. “Be happy, Laura. Enjoy every day that you are together and be grateful that you have found each other. And there will be rough days, but your love will get you through it. I hope, no I know, that you will be as happy as I was with my husband. Urs is a good man, sweetheart. One of a kind.”
“I know, Nonna.” She nodded.

Annie looked at Urs. “Take good care of her and make her happy.”
“I will, Mrs Geeraerts. You can count on that!” he said.
“Good.” She nodded. “Enjoy your honeymoon and bring back a little Bühler!”
Laura blushed and looked up at Urs who tenderly looked at her. “We’ll see.”

When Laura kissed Annie goodbye, the old lady hugged her tight. “I’ll always be with you, child.”
“Nonna…”
Annie looked at Urs. “Goodbye, Urs.”
“Goodbye, Mrs Geeraerts.” He kissed her as well and the old lady looked back at Peter. “I’m ready to go now.”

Urs and Laura watched her leave.
“That was strange.” Laura said.
“What was, Liebling?” Urs looked at her.
She bit her lip. “I don’t know. It was like… she was saying goodbye.”
“I’m sure she’s fine.” Urs had his arm around her waist while they went back to the dining room. “How about another dance before we go?”
She nodded. “That would be great.”

The guys had a great time. They had been laughing all night and felt very relaxed. Even David was different. It was like he realised that he had been neglecting Indre. He danced with her, they sat together and quietly talked to each other,... At long last they were back to being a real couple.

But then Steph showed up. “Uncle David, I don’t want to go home!”
He looked at his watch. “Steph, you’ve been up since early this morning. I think it’s time for you to go to bed.”
“But I’m not tired. Please, Uncle David… Let me stay a little longer.” She tried.
“Macy and Christina are already in bed. And the others are going as well.” He said.
She took his hand. “Then you have to take me to bed. And read me a story.”
“Honey…” he sighed.
“Please, Uncle David!” she whined.
David looked at Indre. “Don’t do it.” She said softly.
“Honey, I…” he started.
Steph began to cry. “Please… I can’t sleep if you don’t read me a story and…”

Carlos shook his head. If David gave in now…
“Ok, ok… One story, alright?” he said and stood up.
Steph nodded and smiled at him.
When they walked out, Indre took a large sip of her wine. Her hands were shaking and she could hardly control her tears.
Seb gently touched her arm. “Indre, don’t let her get to you.”
“It’s not easy, Seb. She’s always like that. It’s like she’s trying to break me and David up.” She said softly.
“He shouldn’t give in all the time. Can’t he see what’s she trying to do?” Carlos grumbled.
Cyd shook her head. “He’s trying to comfort her and that’s really sweet, but she’s taking advantage of it.”

Urs and Laura were dancing close together. Her head rested on his shoulder, while one of her hands softly stroked his chest.
“Shall we go now, Frau Bühler?” he asked.
Laura looked up. “Yes.” She whispered.

They said goodbye to the guys and Urs’ family. Laura’s mother and stepfather waited for them in the hallway.
“We booked you a room for tonight. There is a limousine waiting outside.” Paul handed Urs the key of a hotel room.
He looked surprised. “Thank you.”
“Your wedding night should be special.” Monique hugged her daughter. “Enjoy your trip, Sweetheart.”
“I will, Mama. Thank you for everything. I had an amazing day.” She smiled.
“Yes, thank you so much.” Urs nodded. “It was everything we dreamt of.”

Paul and Monique waved off the happy couple.
“She looks happy.” Monique said softly.
“So does he. They will be happy, darling.” Paul kissed her tenderly. “Just like we are.”

Chapter 64: Night in white satin

About an hour later David finally came back. He squeezed Indre’s shoulder when he sat down. “I’m sorry.”
She shrugged. “Yeah… I get used to it.”
“You want to go now?” he asked, seeing that Cyd and Carlos had already left.
“We are going as well. Come on, Chérie.” Seb took Lorna’s hand.
“Bye guys. Goodnight.” Lorna said while she and Seb left, their arms around each others’ waist.
David and Indre left quietly, not daring to look at each other.

When they got home, they went straight to the bedroom.
David tenderly kissed her. “I do love you, Indre. I hope you know that.”
“I know, but it’s so hard sometimes.” She sighed. “I don’t want to fight anymore, David. Just… love me.”
After they had undressed and got under the covers, David brought her to heaven. The sun was already up when they finally fell asleep.

Cyd and Carlos stumbled into their hotel room. His tie was loose and Cyd had unbuttoned his shirt.
“Querida, you want to try my jacket?” he winked.
She shook her head. “No, but I would love to try on the tie!”
She giggled when he scooped her in his arms and ran to the bedroom. The rest of the night was filled with passion and love.

Seb and Lorna went back to her apartment.
“That was such a beautiful wedding.” She said, kicking off her shoes.
“It sure was.” Seb encircled her waist and kissed her neck. “And ours will be too.”
Lorna nodded. “But… Would you mind having an intimate wedding? I mean, we both have little family and I don’t want a big media circus.”
“Of course not. What have you got in mind?” Seb smiled.
She turned around in his arms and looked at him. “I was thinking about a wedding on a beach. In France maybe. And just the two of us, your mother, Laura and your best man.” She said.
Seb looked surprised. “That’s all? Really?”
“You don’t like it? I thought that it would be romantic.” Lorna bit her lip.
“I love it, Chérie. I just thought that maybe you wanted a big wedding. Seeing I’m so famous.” He grinned. “But I’m glad you want to keep it small. I guess it will be 5 people then, because I want to ask Urs as my best man.”
“Great. I can’t wait.” She said softly.
Seb raised her chin and tenderly kissed her. “Je t’aime, Chérie.”
“I love you too, Seb.”
“Really? How about you show me that?” He picked her up and carried her to the bedroom.

Urs opened the door to the suite and picked up Laura.
“Urs!” she laughed.
He kissed her nose. “Tradition, Liebling.”
They both gasped when they were inside. Candles were lit everywhere, the fire was burning, red roses stood throughout the room and a bottle of champagne was placed on the coffee table.

Urs walked to the bedroom and smiled when he put her on her feet. The white satin sheets of the four poster bed were covered with red rose leaves.
“It’s beautiful.” She whispered.
“So are you, Liebling.” He said and kissed her tenderly.
“I’m nervous, Urs.” She admitted.
Urs smiled. “We’ve got time.”
He slowly began to take out her hairpins. Her long hair fell on her back and he gently caressed it. ”Just the way I like it.” he smiled.

She took a deep breath and slid of his jacket. She hesitated to unbutton his shirt.
“Go ahead, Liebling.” He said softly.
Slowly she opened the buttons. One by one…
Urs threw his shirt away and pulled her close. “Don’t tell me I need to unbutton all those little buttons on your dress?”
“No… There is a hidden zipper.” She smiled.
“Good.” His hands stroked her back and he found what he was looking for. Gently he pulled the zipper down and her dress fell on the floor.
”Mein Gott…” he whispered. “You are so beautiful.”

Laura blushed and looked at her feet. Urs gently raised her chin. “Liebling, I’m serious. There is no need for you to be nervous or embarrassed. You are my wife now and we belong together.”

He picked her up and lay her on the bed. He removed his shoes, socks and pants and joined her.
Urs took her in his arms. “Oh Laura… You made me the happiest man on earth. I never dreamt of marrying such a beautiful woman.”
“I love you Urs. Make me yours.” She whispered.
That night he showed her what love was all about. He loved her tenderly and slowly, building up passion.

The early light filtered in through the gauzy curtains and warmed up the room when Urs looked at his beautiful wife who was dozing of in his arms. Her long hair was fanned out on the pillows and their bodies were still entangled. The night had been amazing. It had been every thing he dreamt of, every thing he had hoped for and their life would be just as beautiful.

Chapter 65: The honeymoon

The next day, Urs and Laura left on honeymoon. The sun was already going under when they arrived in Venice. A small boat waited for them to bring them to the hotel.

Urs had his arm around her shoulders when they crossed the water.
“It’s so beautiful.” She whispered while they looked at the typical houses and the bridges. “I can’t believe we are here. I always wanted to see the Carnival in Venice.”
Urs smiled. “Me too. And going to the city of romance with the woman of my dreams… My wife… It’s like a dream coming true.”
She softly kissed him. “I love you.”

They checked into the hotel and were brought up to their suite.
Laura gasped when she walked in. “Oh my God! Urs! It’s beautiful!”
He smiled when he tipped the bellboy. He had booked a suite that overlooked the lagoon.

“Do you like it, Liebling?”
“I love it! But this must cost a fortune!” she shook her head.
Urs took her in his arms. “It is our honeymoon. And I want you to remember this for the rest of your life.”
“I will.” She looked around. “The bed looks nice.”
Urs picked her up and lay her on top of it. “It looks even nicer when you are in it.”

The rest of the week was like a dream. They walked through the city and looked at the people who were dressed up for the carnival.

“Thanks for taking me here.” Laura smiled.
“My pleasure, Liebling. I love it here. It’s such a beautiful city. And being here with you makes it so special.” He pulled her a little closer.
“Too bad we can’t stay a little longer.” She sighed.
Urs looked at her. “I know. But we will go and see other places together. All around the world.”
“That will be great!” she squeezed his hand.

On Friday night, Laura was in the bathroom getting ready for bed when her mobile rang. Urs checked the ID.
“It’s Peter.” He said.
“Go ahead. You take it.” Laura smiled.
When she came out, Urs just hung up. He threw back the covers of the bed and patted the space next to him. “Sit with me for a second.”
“Something happened.” She said when she sat down.

Urs pulled her close. “Mrs Geeraerts died.”
“What? No!” she looked at him, her eyes filling with tears.
“They found her the morning after our wedding. She died in her sleep.” Urs caressed her hair.
“I knew something wasn’t right. The way she said goodbye…” she shook her head. “She meant so much to me, Urs. She was like a grandmother. I never knew my grandparents. They died when I was really young. And Nonna… I loved her so much.”
Urs felt her tears on his chest and held her close. “I know, Liebling. And you meant a lot to her too. The funeral is tomorrow.”
She looked up. “Can we…?”
“Yes, we’re going home.” He kissed her forehead. “Get some sleep now.”

Urs held her while she cried herself to sleep. He smiled. He realised once again that this woman was everything he had ever dreamt of. Sweet, caring, honest,…
And this week had been amazing. They had loved each other so many times, and every time had been beautiful and full of love. And he knew that their lives would be just as amazing.

Chapter 66: Secrets

The day after the wedding Carlos and David went back to London. Indre was about to sit down next to David when Steph showed up.
“I want to sit next to Uncle David.” She said.
David looked at Indre. “Do you mind?”
Indre didn’t answer him. She angrily put her luggage in the overhead storage and slammed the lit. Her eyes spat fire when she sat down next to Cyd.
Cyd patted her arm. “I’m sorry, Hun.”
“I’m getting to sick of it, Cyd.” She sighed.
“I know. Are you thinking about…” Cyd didn’t finish her sentence.
“Leaving him? It did cross my mind, yes.” Indre said.
“Talk to him.”
Indre shook her head. “She’s always around.”
“Bring her over for an afternoon. I don’t mind. And she can play with Macy.”
“Thanks Cyd. We’ll see.” Indre smiled at her. “Be happy that Macy accepts Carlos without any trouble.”
Cyd nodded. “I am, believe me. I was afraid in the beginning, but… They are crazy about each other.”

The next day, Cyd was up early.
“Where are you going?” Carlos asked sleepily.
“To work. I have a busy day.”
Carlos grabbed her wrist when she bent over the bed to kiss him. “Call in sick.”
“I can’t, Carlos. I’m sorry. I’ll make it up later.” She winked.
“You better!”

Cyd left the house, but instead of going to the office, she went to the doctor. When she sat in front of him, he smiled at her. “Mrs Marin, what seems to be the problem?”
“I can’t get pregnant.” Cyd said.
“How long are you trying?” Doctor Morris asked.
Cyd sighed. “I don’t know. 6, 7 months.”
“Are your periods regular?”
“No, not really.” Cyd shook her head.
The doctor nodded. “Well… We’ll run some tests. I’ll take some blood and get it examined.”
“And how long will it take?”
“A few days. I’ll make it a priority.” Doctor Morris smiled. “If I don’t find anything, we’ll run some more tests and maybe your husband should come in as well. The problem doesn’t have to be with you.”
Cyd shook her head. “I don’t want him to know yet. Just… do those tests first.”

In the mean time, Carlos entered the Sony building. “Hello, Lucy. I’m here to have lunch with my wife.”
“Cyd’s not here, Carlos. She’s coming back tomorrow, not today.” Lucy smiled.
“Oh? Right… I guess I misunderstood her then. Ehm... Bye Lucy.” Carlos turned around and left, his mind going crazy.

When Cyd returned home, Carlos and Macy sat at the table, waiting to have diner.
“Hi. Oh Carlos! You cooked!” she smiled.
“Si. How was your day, Querida?” he asked.
“Busy.” She sat down next to Macy and didn’t see the look he gave her.

After diner Cyd put Macy in bed. When she came back down, Carlos stood in front of the window, his arms crossed. “And now I want the truth, Cydalia. Where have you been?”
She looked startled. “I was at w…”
“Don’t lie to me! I know you didn’t go to work.” He said angrily.
Cyd bit her lip. “I went to the doctor.”
Carlos took two big steps and gathered her in his arms. “What’s wrong? Querida, are you ill?”
“No. I… He did some tests. I want to know why I can’t get pregnant.” She sobbed.
“You should have told me. I could have gone with you.” He held her tight.
“What if I can’t get kids anymore, Carlos?” she cried.
He gently wiped away her tears. “Then we’ll adopt some. And we have Macy.”
“But I want your children.”
“Querida… Macy is my daughter. And if we have more, then I’ll be very happy. And if we don’t… I won’t stop loving you.” He kissed her tenderly. “Come… Let’s go to bed.”
They walked upstairs, their fingers laced.

David and Indre were fast asleep in each others’ arms when they were startled by a loud scream.
“What the…” David put on his boxers and jumped out of bed. Indre quickly put on David’s shirt and was about to get out of bed when Steph came running in, her teddy bear in her arms.
“Uncle David!” she cried.
“What is it, Sweetie?” he picked her up.
“I had a nightmare.”
“Oh Honey.” He caressed her hair. “Want to tell me about it?”
She shook her head. “Can I stay here, please? I don’t want to sleep alone.”
“Of course, Sweetie!”

Indre couldn’t believe her ears. He didn’t even ask her if she agreed.
David lay down in the middle and Steph lay beside him with her big teddy bear. Indre angrily turned her back to David. But he didn’t even notice.

Chapter 67: Breaking up…

Indre wiped some tears away when she put the last things in her suitcase. It was enough. “Uncle David, I want this.”, “Uncle David, can I do that?”, “Uncle David, come with me”.
If this was what people called ‘love’ she didn’t want to feel it anymore.

She sat down on the edge of the bed. Her fingers gently stroked the sheets. The moments of love and passion that they had shared, ran through her mind.
‘It’s over.’

She slowly stood up and felt her head spinning. For a moment it became dark for her eyes, but then the weakness faded away. Indre sat down at the table and took a sheet of paper and a pen.
“I won’t be here when you get back, so this is my ‘goodbye’ to you...”

Half an hour later, the letter was finished. She took an envelope and with trembling hands she wrote ‘To David’ on it. She stood up and placed the envelope under David’s pillow. She knew he would find it when he was going to sleep.

Indre took a last look around the bedroom. She opened the closet once more, just to realize that all her things were in her suitcase. She was about to go downstairs and leave David’s house, when she heard him unlocking the door.
Too late...

She didn’t hear Stephanie, so she knew that David had probably left her with Macy for a while. That’s were he went with her. He said he needed to talk to Carlos, but... It was the perfect moment for Indre to leave him. Unfortunately she had used too much time for packing...

Indre took a deep breath when she heard David coming up the stairs. Suddenly he stood in the doorway. “Honey, I’m ho-...” he said and looked shocked when he saw Indre standing in front of him with her suitcase next to her. “What is all this?” he pointed at the suitcase.

She sighed. “David, I can’t take this anymore. You are with Stephanie day and night. You make all her wishes come true and I... You don’t need me. Or you do need me, but just in bed, because it are only the nights you are spending with me.” she said with tears in her eyes.

“Indre, can’t you understand? The poor girl has lost both of her parents at once! It’s hard for me as well!” he yelled.

“Don’t shout at me, David. Yes, she’s a little girl. Yes, she has lost her parents, but I wouldn’t say that she’s ‘poor’. You are spoiling her. You are doing whatever she wants! She wants you to read a book and you are doing it, although she’s old enough to read a book by herself. She wants to sleep with you in OUR bed, and you agree without even asking what I think. David, I know that you want the girl to feel better, but... Do you ever think about my feelings? Do you care how I’m feeling when you are leaving me alone?” she asked.

“You have to understand me! And don’t talk about Stephanie like this! You don’t like her, do you? You don’t like her and that’s why you are acting so angry and leave me without even thinking about me!” David kept yelling.

“STOP SHOUTING AT ME!!! You are sick or blinded by that girl if you think that I don’t love you! I love you! I love you with all my heart! I love you like I never did before, but this is simply unbearable for me! I’ve missed those moments that it was just the two of us together, without Steph running around and asking you to do something for her! I miss your embraces, I miss your kisses, our nights... And I know that I won’t have those things, because you are giving everything just to her. God, I’m competing a man’s attention with an 8 year-old girl...! And that’s ridiculous...” she sighed.

“Do you want me to choose between you and Steph?” David asked angrily.

“I’m not asking you, because I know that you will choose Stephanie, so...” she took a deep breath. “I’m leaving you. It’s enough. Stay with her and fulfil all her wishes. But I don’t know how long you’ll be happy with that. Goodbye, David.” She took her suitcase and walked through the bedroom’s door. She went downstairs and stepped into the cab that was already waiting for her.

“Where to, Miss?” the driver asked.
Indre took a breath. “To the airport, please.” she whispered and felt how tears filled her eyes again.

That night, when David was preparing to go to sleep, he found the letter. He sat on the bed and took the letter out of the envelope. There were places where the ink was unclear. Probably from her tears.

He felt a lump in his throat. His eyes filled with tears when he started reading the letter.

David, my love...

I thought this would be easier for the both of us... I can’t take this anymore. I love you, but I feel that I can’t live with you and Stephanie, who is always near to ruin our evening or night...

Don’t think that I hate her. No... I just hate those moments when she comes to us and takes you away from me. I hate the moments when you are giving all your time just to her, when you are leaving me alone... Like the New Year’s ball... You wanted us to leave, because Stephanie was ‘sick’... And at Urs’ wedding…

Be honest with yourself, David... Imagine that you are with Stephanie and someone calls you and tells you that I’m sick, but you don’t have anyone to stay with Stephanie. Would you leave her alone and come to me? No... You would stay with her, because ‘Indre is a grown up. She can take care of herself.’ I don’t need such relationship, where only one is giving everything and another is just taking... Taking and not giving back time together, love, and passion after all...

I need your time. I need your attention. I need your smile. I need your laughter. I need your shining eyes. I need your embraces. I need your love... I need you... But I can’t have you...

You are the one to decide who you want to be with... I know that it’s not me... I hope that you will be happy... But remember one thing: there won’t be a woman who will agree getting just drops of your time and your attention. Stop giving in to Stephanie. Look at your own life... One day you will have your own children. What will you do then...? Tell them that Stephanie needs your attention more than your OWN kids...? It’s not fair...

I love you and I always will... But I can’t take this anymore... Forgive me for everything...

Indre...

A tear ran down David’s cheek when he finished reading the letter. He wanted to read it once more, but...

“Uncle David, will you read me a story before I go to bed?” Steph asked.
“Yeah, sure, sweetheart...” he sighed.
Hand in hand with Stephanie he went to her room to read one more, ‘traditional’ story before Steph fell asleep...

Chapter 68: …is hard to do

Seb was just preparing diner when someone rang the bell.
“I’ll get it!” Lorna said. When she opened the door, Indre stood there. Her eyes were red and it was obvious she had been crying.
“Indre! What happened?” Lorna led her to the living room.
“I left him.” She whispered.
“What? Oh God…” Lorna hugged her.
Seb sat down beside her. “I’m sorry, Indre.”
“I couldn’t take it anymore… Last night… It was the final drop…” she sobbed.
“What happened?” Seb asked.
“Steph… She had a nightmare. And she wanted to sleep with us. And David agreed without even asking me.”
Lorna shook her head. “Oh Hun…”

“I’m going home.” She said quietly.
Lorna looked surprised. “You mean… You’re going back to Lithuania?”
“Yes… I need to get away from all this for a while.” She nodded.
“Indre, if there is anything we can do, you will call us, right?” Seb asked.
“I will. Thanks, Seb.” She looked at Lorna. “Thanks for everything. You’re such a good friend, Lorna.”
“I’ll miss you, Hun. Keep in touch, ok?” she hugged her.
Indre nodded. “I will. I’m leaving tomorrow.”
“Are you taking your cats?” Lorna asked.
“Of course I am!” Indre smiled sadly. “At least they love me.”
“David loves you too, Indre. I guess he just… doesn’t realise how much.” Seb said.
Indre shook her head. “I’m not asking you to pick sides, Seb. I know you’re his friend and I don’t want to come between that.” She stood up. “I better go. I got a lot of packing to do.”
Seb hugged her. “Let us know how you are.”
“I will.” She nodded.
Lorna walked her to the door. “Hun, I’m so sorry.”
“I know. Thanks. I’ll call you.” Indre waved one last time before getting in the elevator.

Seb hugged Lorna when she came back in. “We can’t blame her.”
“No. But can we blame him?” she shook her head.
“I hope he sees through Steph soon. It will ruin him otherwise.” Seb gently kissed her. “Come on, diner is getting cold.”

On Saturday Cyd and Carlos went back to the doctor to get her test results.
He looked serious. “Mrs Marin, I’m afraid you have an ovulating problem.”
“Ovu… what?” Carlos looked confused.
“It means that your wife doesn’t produce an egg every month and that is why she’s having trouble to get pregnant.” Doctor Morris explained. “Your oestrogen level is too low.”
“So… I can’t have children?” Cyd asked.
The doctor smiled. “I’m gonna subscribe you some tablets. They will get your oestrogen level up again and you shouldn’t have any problems then.”
Cyd sighed. “Great! How long will it take before…?”
“It can go fast. Maybe next month. I do have to warn you though.” The doctor looked at both of them. “You could get pregnant of twins or triplets. When you improve your fertility, that’s always a risk.”
Carlos smiled. “I don’t mind having twins.”
“Good. I just don’t want to you to get a surprise and blame me afterwards.” Doctor Morris winked.

Cyd and Carlos smiled at each other when they walked home.
“Next month.” She said.
“Twins.” He smiled.
“A boy and a girl.” She nodded.
“Querida…. You better start taking those pills really quickly!” he winked.

David stood in front of the window starred into the darkness. He realised that Indre was right. And he missed her. He missed her so much. He had tried to call her, but he couldn’t reach her.
“Uncle David?” Dylan’s voice startled him.
“Yes, Dylan?”
“Is it our fault that Indre left?” the boy asked.
David looked at him. “No, buddy. It’s my fault. I didn’t treat her like I should have.”
“It’s Steph’s fault.” Dylan said softly.
David sighed. “No, Dylan. I… I should have seen that I was loosing Indre. And Steph… I know I spoiled her, but…” He looked at the boy. “Dylan, are you happy here?”
“I miss my parents, but I’m glad that we live with you.” He nodded. “And I can’t wait to go on tour! Uncle David, can I…” he hesitated.
“What is it, Dylan?”
He bit his lip. “Can I watch the soundchecks? I would like to do something like that when I’m older.”
“Of course you can, Buddy.” David patted his back.
“Thanks, Uncle David.” He hugged him. “I’m going to bed now. Maybe you should call Indre. And tell her that I miss her.”

David watched the boy going upstairs. He couldn’t believe how wise he was. And he was right. He should call her and try to talk about what happened. He loved her and needed her.
He pulled out his mobile and hit the speed dial.
“The number you are trying to reach has been disconnected.”

David sighed. He had lost her because of his own stupid fault and now he couldn’t even reach her to apologise.

Chapter 69: Annie’s song

Urs and Laura took the early flight from Venice to Brussels. They quickly went to her apartment to get changed for Annie’s funeral.

Laura’s father had arranged a car to pick them up.
“There will be press.” Laura said quietly when they sat in the car.
Urs gently squeezed her hand. “I know.”
“If you rather go in without me…”
“Liebling, we are married.” He smiled.
She looked at him. “I know, but… The fans don’t know that.”
“I know. That’s on my ‘to-discuss-with-Simon' list.” He kissed her cheek. “I don’t mind that they know.”

The car stopped in front of the church and the driver helped them out.
Urs gently tucked Laura’s hand in the bend of his arm. “You ok?”
She nodded and took a deep breathe.

They entered the church and greeted the coffin. On top of it lay a huge bouquet with red and white roses. A ribbon was attached with Laura’s name on it.
The mortician brought them to their places on the first row. Laura’s parents and brother were already seated.

It was a beautiful service. The church was completely packed and a lot of people had to stand because there were no more chairs available. Mrs Geeraerts had been very active with all kinds of charity and a lot of people wanted to honour her and say goodbye.

The service was almost finished when Laura walked to the piano that stood in front of the church. She took a deep breath and played “Liebestraum”, Annie’s favourite song, once last time. Urs saw she was trying to fight back her tears. When the song ended, a lonely tear ran down her cheek. Laura stood up and lay her hand on the coffin before she walked back to her seat. Urs took her hand and squeezed it. He knew how hard it was for her.

A small delegation made his way to the cemetery. Urs supported Laura while she said goodbye to the woman she had loved so much.
“Bye Nonna.” Tears ran down her cheeks and a sob escaped her while she lay the white rose on the coffin. Urs gently led her to the car and held her close while they drove to the Meersmans’ estate for the reception.

Seb and Lorna waited for them. They both hugged Laura.
“Thanks for coming.” Laura said.
Lorna smiled. “You’re welcome, Hun.”
The two girls walked to one of the salons while the guys stayed behind.

“How was the honeymoon?” Seb asked Urs.
He smiled widely. “It was amazing. Venice is such a beautiful city and being there with your wife… It’s unbelievable.”
Seb nodded. “I bet! Is Laura coming with us to Sweden?”
“Yes, she is. I know Indre and Cyd are going as well.” Urs said.
“Indre isn’t. She and David broke up.” Seb sighed.
Urs looked shocked. “What? Oh God… How’s David?”
“I don’t know. He sent me a text but didn’t answer his phone when I called him. Indre came by to tell us. She went back to Lithuania.”
“We all saw it coming, but…” Urs shook his head. “I can’t blame her for leaving him. But knowing him, he will be devastated.”

That night Laura quietly got ready for bed. Urs waited for her and threw the covers back when she came out of the bathroom. Laura nuzzled close and Urs held her tight.
“It’s ok to cry, Liebling.” He whispered.
“I don’t want you to think that… that I’m a cry baby.” She said sadly.
Urs looked at her. “I know you are a strong woman, but there is nothing wrong with showing your emotions. I know how much you loved Annie. And I saw you fighting back your tears all day long.”

“I love you, Urs. I never believed that it was possible to love someone in such an intense way. I always thought love was something that was made up for romance novels and love songs.” She shrugged. “And then you came along and turned my world upside down.”

Urs stroked her cheek. “I love you too, Liebling. And believe me… You changed my life in so many ways. I always said I wouldn’t get married. And look… Here I am, with a beautiful woman in my arms. My wife … who will hopefully carry my child soon.”
Laura smiled. “I would love too.”
Urs gently turned her on her back. “Let’s see if we can do something about that.”

Chapter 70: A gift

The last week of February the guys went back to Sweden to round up their recording. They had all enjoyed their week off and were relaxed and happy. All, except David. It was so obvious that he missed Indre. He hardly smiled and didn’t joke around like he used to do.
Steph was still demanding his attention, but sometimes he just didn’t notice it. Urs tried to talk to him, but he didn’t get into it.

Simon had given them another week off when the recordings were finished and before they went to Ireland for a photo shoot.
Seb and Lorna started cleaning up her apartment and moved to Paris. Seb was thrilled because Lorna had found a job in a hospital not far from his apartment. David, Carlos and their family went back to London. And Urs and Laura went to Belgium. Annie’s lawyer had called Laura and wanted to see her because she was mentioned in the will.

When Laura came home from the lawyer, she walked straight to the couch and sank into it.
“Liebling? What’s wrong?” Urs looked worried at her.
She handed him a letter but didn’t answer.

“My dearest Laura,

You have brought so much joy to my life and you made this old woman very happy. I never had children or grandchildren, but to me you have been like a granddaughter. Laura, you are an amazing woman. And your music makes people so happy.

Therefore I want to give you something. I’m leaving you my house. I want you to turn it into a music school for sick and poor children. Make sure that those who want to, get a proper music education. Get them the best teachers and make them happy. Show them how beautiful music is and how much joy it can bring to people’s lives.

I know that you need money to do all that and that is why I left you 2 million euros. Spend them well. Pay the teachers, rebuild the house… Do whatever is necessary. I know you can do it, Laura.
I realise that you can’t do this on your own and that you will probably be joining Urs on tour. But maybe Peter can help you with it. You two make a great time and I’m convinced you can pull it off.

My lawyer has a key for you. That key belongs to a safe deposit. He’ll give you the details how to get to it. In there you’ll find my jewellery. I want you to have it and to wear it. And I know you will say that’s it too much and that you don’t want it or don’t deserve it, but you do!

I’ll be watching over you, Laura. I hope you and Urs will be very happy and have a lot of kids.

All my love,
Your Nonna, Annie.”

“Oh my…” Urs whispered. He read the letter again, not quite believing what he read.
It was silent for a while. But then they both looked at each other and Urs pulled Laura in his arms. “You can do this, Liebling.”
She shook her head. “I can’t believe she did that. I mean… I’m not even related.”
“She loved you very much.” Urs said.
“I know, but… The house… It’s huge!” Laura said.
Urs chuckled. “Well, if it’s anything like your parents’ estate...”
“It’s different. But beautiful as well. And it has a large park. I think the kids will love it there. Lots of fresh air. They don’t have to sit inside the whole time.” Laura said.
Urs smiled at her. “I guess that means you are gonna do it.”
“I don’t have a choice, do I? Would you mind if I did it?” she bit her lip.
“Nee, Liebling. And I will help you with it. Maybe I can teach them some music as well when we are not on tour.” He kissed her forehead.
“That would be great.” She nodded. “But I guess I can’t go with you then.”
“Why not?”
“Well… They will need me here.” She looked at him.
“Peter can help you. You know what, let’s go and talk to your parents and Peter tomorrow.” Urs suggested.
She nodded. “Ja, good idea.”

The next day Urs and Laura talked to her parents. Laura would hire the teachers and Peter would take the daily management on him. Paul told them that the Meersman’s charity committee would give them donations as well.

Afterwards Laura took Urs to see the house. He was speechless when they stood in front of it.
“Mein Gott!”

She opened the front door and Urs looked around in awe. A huge crystal chandelier hung on the two floor high ceiling. A double staircase led to the first floor.

Urs and Laura walked around the house. They checked out every room.
“It’s such a beautiful house.” Urs said.
Laura nodded. “Yes, it is. And I guess I can keep some of the furniture. We will need a dining room and a living room. And maybe a few guest rooms as well.”
“And the rest we can turn into classrooms and music rooms.” Urs agreed. He took her hand. “Do you want to move here?”
Laura looked at him. “No. I still want us to find a house in Switzerland.”
Urs hugged her tight. “How about we go there tomorrow? We still have a few days before we have to go to Ireland.”
“That would be nice.” Laura nodded.

Chapter 71: Miss you nights

Laura and Urs arrived at his parents’ house on Wednesday morning. They were greeted by the dogs and his mother.
“Mutti.” Urs hugged her.
“Hello you two. How was the honeymoon? Laura, you look great!”
“Thanks, Greta. I feel really good. I think my husband has something to do with it.” She smiled.
Greta put an arm around her shoulder. “You know, Laura… I would like you to call me ‘Mutti’ as well. If you don’t mind of course. Everyone else does, so…”
“I would like that, Mutti.” She kissed her on the cheek and met Urs’ gaze. He smiled proudly at the two women who were so important in his life.

The next day Urs and Laura drove through the area. Urs had contacted a real estate agent and they had given him some addresses.
They came to the last address and when they stopped in front of the house, Laura smiled widely. “Urs! It’s beautiful!”
Urs took her hand. “Let’s take a look inside first.”

In the middle of the spacious living room was an open fire. Couches were placed around it so that no matter where you sat, you could enjoy the warmth of it.
The kitchen was modern, but cosy and had large windows that looked out over the garden.

Urs and Laura checked out the top floors.
“How many bedrooms are there?” Laura asked, after seeing number 5.
Urs grinned. “8.”
“8? Why do we need 8 bedrooms?” she asked surprised.
“Well, if the guys want to come and visit us or your family. And our children need a bedroom of their own.” He winked.
Laura smiled. “Yes, of course.” She opened the doors to the terrace and looked at the mountains. “It’s so beautiful here. So peaceful.”
“So, shall we buy it?” Urs asked, putting his arms around her waist.
She nodded. “Yes.”

“Querida, could you…” Carlos stopped in the middle of his bedroom and dropped the tie he had in his hands. Cyd stood in front of the mirror, wearing nothing but her underwear.
“Those damn hormone pills made me put on weight.” She complained.
“Dios!” It took Carlos 3 steps to reach her and he kissed her hungrily. “Believe me, the places where you have put on weight make you so sexy! Keep taking the pills!”

He scooped her in his arms and dropped her on the bed.
“Carlos! We have to… Oh God… We…”
“I need to prove my wife how sexy she is.” He mumbled, kissing her neck.

“Seb, I’ve been thinking…”
He looked up from his paper. “That sounds dangerous.”
“I need to learn some French if I start working here.” Lorna said.
“Ah oui. I can teach you. Repeat after me… ‘Je t’aime.’.” he winked.
“Seb!” she laughed.

He raised his eyebrows. “What? That is the most important sentence in French.””
“I’m sure my patients will love it when I tell hem that!” Lorna giggled.
“Don’t you dare!” Seb pulled her on his lap and kissed her. “You can tell me as much as you like, but don’t you dare tell anyone else.”
“But I need to practise.” She teased.
Seb stood up and pulled her with him. “We need to practise our wedding night, Chérie.”

“I’m sorry. The number you are trying to reach has been disconnected.”
David sighed. He didn’t know why he kept trying. He couldn’t reach her anyway. But he missed her so much. He had been such an idiot and now it was too late. Or not?
He dialled Seb’s number.
“Hi Seb. It’s David.”
“David! How are you?” Seb sounded happy.
“Ok, I guess. I need to ask you something. Do you know where Indre is?”
“Non, I don’t.” Seb answered.
“Please, Seb. I need her. You and Lorna must know something.” David pleaded.
Seb sighed. “David, all I know is that she went back to Lithuania.”
“But… You must have her phone number.” David tried again.
“I don’t. All we have is her email address.”
“Oh… Can I have it, please?” David asked.
“Sure!”

When David had ended the call, he sat down behind his laptop and started typing. He erased a part and typed it again. It took him a while, but finally he hit the ‘send’ button.

That evening in Lithuania, Indre decided to check her emails. She was surprised to see David’s name.

Subject: Miss you

Dear Indre,

I’ve been a total idiot. I realise that now. And I realise that the woman of my dreams has left me because I was too stubborn to see that she was right.
I miss you, Indre. I don’t know what more to see or how to say it, so I wrote a song. I hope you like it.

David

Indre opened the attachment and David’s voice filled the room. She couldn’t hold back her tears. “Oh David…”

I've had many times I can tell you
Times when innocence I'd trade for company
And children saw me crying
I thought I'd had my share of that
But these miss you nights are the longest

Midnight diamonds stud my heaven
Southward burning like the jewels that eye your place
And warm winds that embrace me
Just as surely kissed your face
Yeah those miss you nights they're the longest

(Lay down) Lay down all thoughts of your surrender
It's only me who's killing time
(play down) play down all dreams once remembered
It's just the same this miss you game

Thinking of my going
How to cut the thread and leave it all behind
Looking windward for my compass
I take each day as it arrives
But these miss you nights are the longest

But these miss you nights are the longest

Chapter 72: Messages

The guys enjoyed their time in Ireland. The photo shoot was going really well and they were having a ball.

“Liebling, hast du…”
Laura came out of the bathroom, one hand on her belly, a pregnancy test in the other hand.
Urs looked at her. “Are we…?”
She nodded with tears in her eyes. “Yes…”
“Mein Gott! Liebling!” Us hugged her tight and kissed her tenderly. “A baby! We are having a baby!”
Laura smiled. “It’s still early days, Urs. So keep it quiet for a while, will you?”
“That’s gonna be hard! Oh Liebling, you make me so happy!” Urs put his large hand on her belly. “Our child.”
“When we get home, I’ll go see a doctor to be sure.” She said.
Urs nodded. “Ja. You need to take good care of yourself.”

There was a knock on the door.
“Urs, are you ready?” Seb’s voice sounded.
“Ja! I’m coming!” He kissed Laura. “Can I tell him?”
She shook her head. “Let’s wait just a few weeks. Just to be sure.”
“Ok. I’ll see you later!” he walked out with a large smile on his face.

All through the day, Urs kept smiling. When they guys asked him something, he hardly heard them.
“Right… What is going on, Amigo?” Carlos finally asked.
“Nothing. I’m just… happy.” He smiled.
Seb looked intently at him. It was obvious that Urs was hiding something, but he knew that pushing him was no use.

After Ireland, the whole gang went to London. The guys had a meeting with Simon to discuss their next world tour. The next few weeks they would be promoting their album and in May they would start touring again.

Urs had just left the hotel, when Laura’s mobile rang.
“Hello?”
“Hi Laura. It’s Simon. How are you, Sweetheart?”
“Simon! I’m good. Urs just left. He’ll be there soon.” She said.
Simon smiled. “I was hoping he would be gone by now. Laura, I have a proposition for you.”
“Oh? What’s that?“ she asked.
“Well, Il Divo’s pianist just quit. So we need a new one. And I would like you to take the job.” He said.
“Me? Simon, I can’t!” she shook her head.
“Why not?” he asked.
“First of all because you don’t want the guys to mess around with the orchestra.”
“You’re married to Urs, Laura. I wouldn’t call that messing around!” Simon laughed.
“And… I just found out that I’m pregnant, Simon. So I can’t go with them during the last 3 months.” She sighed. “Besides… I don’t know if I can do it. I haven’t played that intensly for a long time.”
“Laura, I’m sure it will be alright. Are you willing to give it a try?” he asked.
“I have to discuss this with Urs first. I don’t want to take the decision without him.” She said.
Simon smiled. “I’m sure he won’t have anything against it. But… have a word with him and get back to me.”
“Ok, I will. Thanks, Simon.”
“You’re welcome.”

Simon smiled when he looked at the guys who sat in front of his desk. They all looked happy and rested. All except David.
“So, guys… Is there anyone who wants to tell me something? Do I need to reschedule some things due to weddings and stuff?”

Urs chuckled. “You know us well. Actually Simon, I need some time off in December. Early December, that is.”
“You do? And the reason?” Simon asked.
“Laura is pregnant.” He smiled.
“Quoi? Urs! Congratulations mon ami!” Seb hugged him.
“Si! Well done!” Carlos grinned.
David nodded. “Good for you.”
“Right. I’ll keep it in mind.” Simon said. “Anyone else?”
“I’m getting married in July.” Seb said. “Just the two of us. I’m sorry guys, but Lorna wants to keep it intimate.”
“We understand, Seb.” Carlos patted his back.
“Ok… July…” Simon wrote down. “Anything else?”
The guys shook their head.

“Simon, there is something else we need to discuss.” Urs said.
He looked up when he heard Urs’ serious tone. “What’s that?”

“The fans don’t know Carlos and I got married. At least I don’t think they do. And I think they should. I mean… I know I’m always the one that keeps his private life private, but… Laura’s family is involved in a lot of charity events, so she’s in the public eye a lot. And we will go to events together, so…” he stammered.

Simon chuckled. “I think I get the picture. Look, it’s up to you guys if you want the fans to know or not. In the past I said that it would be better to keep it a secret, but I think we all agree that the fans are very respectful towards you all. If you want to let them know, post a message. I don’t mind.”

“Maybe we could post something together.” Seb said. “I’ll tell them about Lorna as well.”
Carlos nodded. “Good idea.”
“Ok, go ahead.” Simon smiled. “There is something I need to ask you guys. As you know, Ben, our pianist quit. We need someone else. So, I’ve been thinking… Would you guys mind if I hired Laura?”
Urs looked surprised. “Laura? My Laura? Are you serious?”
Simon nodded. “Yes, I am. Do you mind?”
“I don’t know… Now that we are starting up that music school… But on the other hand, she was gonna travel with me anyway. Maybe you can ask her.” Urs said.
“I already did. And she said yes.” Simon smiled.
“Oh really?” Urs said.
“She was gonna discuss it with you, Urs. She said that she would only say yes if you agreed.” Simon reassured him.
“Let’s hire her. She’s good.” Carlos said.
Seb nodded. “I agree.”
“David?” Simon asked.
He didn’t answer.
“Earth to David? Ok, usually Seb's the one who isn't here, not you. What's going on?" Simon asked.
“Nothing.” David quietly said.
“Miller…” Simon warning tone made him look up.

“Look, Simon… Indre and I broke up and… I miss her. I need her. I want her back. And I know it’s my own stupid fault. And I shouldn’t give in to Steph all the time, but…” his voice faltered and tears appeared in his eyes. “I love her so much.”
Urs hugged him. “It will be ok, my friend. Give her time.”
Simon sighed. “If there is anything I can do, David, let me know. Now, about the tour…”

The rest of the afternoon flew by while the guys discussed the upcoming tour and the promotion of the album.

When David checked his emails that evening, he saw Indre’s name. She had finally replied.

David,

Thank you for the song. It was really beautiful and I really appreciate your work, but how can I be sure that such things won't happen again?
I want to be with you, I really do, but I can't take this any longer. I need to think about everything. I came back to Lithuania, because I wanted to escape from you and from what happened. I need time.

I'll find you when I'm ready to start over again. I hope without Steph always around us. I am in love with you, David, not with her. And I hope that you can understand that.

Forever,
Indre

He read the email over and over again, softly crying. She still loved him. And he loved her. But would she ever come back?

That night Seb posted a message on the forum.

To all of our faithful and dedicated fans,
As you may have heard rumours about our personal lives, we feel that you should hear the truth from us. Carlos has married a wonderful woman by the name of Cydalia Brown while our Urs was married very recently to Laura Vanden Eynde.

Meanwhile, I know I'm a lucky man to have found a very special woman by the name of Lorna Sharpe, whom I have asked to be my wife. She actually agreed and we are in the process of planning our special day.

We all request that you respect our privacy.

If you wonder about David, his heart is taken by an equally amazing and strong woman.

Thank you all for your support,
xoxo
Seb, Carlos, Urs and David

Chapter 73: Kids!

While the guys were promoting their album, Laura was in Belgium. She had interviews with potential music teachers for her music school. And after about three weeks she had found the people she needed. The school would officially open in September, but until then a lot of work needed to be done. Classrooms and music rooms needed to be prepared. Luckily Peter and her parents were there to help her.

The last week of April, Laura flew to London to start rehearsing with the orchestra. Urs was anxious to see her again. He came to pick her up at the airport and when she came through customs, he couldn’t control himself any longer and ran to her. He picked her up and kissed her tenderly.
“I have missed you so much!”
Laura smiled. “I missed you too. But… put me down now. People are looking.”
“I don’t care. Let them see how much we love each other.” He said.
Eventually he put her on her feet and hugged her tight. “How’s our little one?”
“He’s fine. Or she.” Laura laughed.
“And what about you?” Urs asked.
She sighed. “Let’s just say flying is no fun at all anymore!”
“Why is that?”
“I’ve been throwing up during take off and landing. But the doctor said it’s normal. It should be over after 3 months.” She shrugged.
“I’m sorry, Liebling. Come, let’s go home. I’ll take care of you.” Urs took her luggage and with his arm around her waist, they walked out.

“Kids, I want you to meet Ms Sheila McCartney. She’ll be travelling with us as your personal teacher.” David smiled.
“A teacher? Why?” Steph asked.
“I think it’s time you two got back to school. Well, sort of. Sheila, this is Stephanie and that’s Dylan.” David introduced them.
“Nice to meet you.” Sheila smiled.
“I don’t want to go to school.” Steph said.
“It’s not really school, sweetie. You are still travelling with me but in the mean time you are getting a proper education.” David said.
Steph stamped her feet. “I don’t want to! Macy isn’t going to school either!”
“Yes, she is. She’ll be with the two of you.” David turned to Sheila. “Macy is turning six in a few weeks, so…”
Sheila nodded. “We’ll have lots of fun, Stephanie. And you will actually see the countries that you are learning about.”
“I don’t want to! I hate school! And I hate you!” she screamed and ran to her room, slamming the door behind her.

“Stephanie Marie Stevenson!” David’s voice roared through the house. He ran up the stairs and opened the door to her room. “I have enough of your behaviour, young lady. You are gonna get a proper education and you will listen to Sheila and do your homework. And don’t even think about whining, cause this time it won’t help you!”

Steph looked at him and began to cry. She took her teddy bear in her arms and curled up on her bed. David swallowed and was about to comfort her, when he felt a hand on his arm.
“Don’t give in now.” Sheila whispered. “Give her some time and let her cry. She’ll be ok.”
He sighed. “I hope you’re right.”

“Daddy, can I have a birthday party?” Macy asked.
“Of course, Honey. We’ll be in the US when you turn 6. But we’ll organise something.” Carlos smiled.
“I want ice cream and pancakes and Uncle David and Steph have to come. And…” she jumped up and down.
Carlos laughed and picked her up. “Anything you want, Honey. But now it’s time for bed. Or your Mummy will get angry.”
“Why is she so sad?” Macy asked while Carlos put her in bed.
“Well, your mummy and I want another baby. But it’s a bit…difficult.” Carlos tucked her in.
Macy took her stuffed rabbit and looked seriously at him. “Can’t you just go to the store and buy one? I will help you pick a nice one!”
“I’m sure you would, Honey. And I wish it was that easy.” Carlos kissed his daughter on the forehead. “Goodnight, sweetie.”
“Night, Daddy.”

He was still smiling when he walked into their bedroom. Cyd stood in front of the window, a hand on her belly.
Carlos pulled her in his arms. “Stop worrying, Querida. It will happen.”
“It’s so frustrating, Carlos. I mean… Urs and Laura just got married and are already expecting. Don’t get me wrong. I’m happy for them, but…” A tear ran down her cheek.
“I know.” He tenderly kissed her.
She sighed. “Let’s go to bed. I want to be close to you.”
They quietly got ready for bed and got under the covers. Carlos took her in his arms and stroked her hair until she was fast asleep.
“Te quiero, Cyd.” He whispered.

Dear Indre,

It’s been a while since I heard from you. I think I took a big step forward today. I hired a personal teacher for Steph and Dylan. And I can assure you that she doesn’t like it!

But this time I’m not giving in. I realise that I have spoiled her and gave her everything she wanted. And that has been a big mistake. Especially because it made me loose you.

There is so much I want to tell you, but I don’t know how. So… I guess I better don’t… I don’t want to sound like a rambling lunatic.

I miss you so much, Babe. I hope you still think about me.

All my love,
David.

Chapter 74: Touring

Seb sighed when he looked in the mirror. He took a few deep breaths to calm down. He wished Lorna was with him right now. The first concert was always hell for his nerves! But Lorna was in Paris and couldn’t get time off from her new job.
“10 minutes, Seb.” Cyd knocked on the door.
“Oui, merci.” He nervously played with his sleeves and decided he looked good enough to go on stage.

Urs straightened his tie. “What do you think?”
“You look very handsome.” Laura smiled.
“Thanks, Liebling. But so do you.” He kissed her tenderly. “Can you believe I’m nervous?”
“Really? You’ll be fine once you’re on stage.”
He smiled. “I know. And the two of us together… That’s a nice extra.”

There was a knock on the door and Cyd looked in. “10 minutes, Urs. Laura, are you ready?”
“Yes, I am.” She kissed Urs and walked to the door. “I’ll see you on stage!”
“You bet!” he smiled when she closed the door behind her.

“David, are you ready?” Cyd looked in his dressing room and saw him sitting on the couch, staring in thin air.
“Yeah… I guess.”
“Sing for her.” Cyd smiled.
He nodded. “I will. Thanks Cyd.”

“Ready, Carlos?” she asked when he came out of his dressing room.
“Almost.” He gathered her in his arms and kissed her longingly. “Now I am.”
Cyd blushed when she heard some girls from the orchestra giggle. “You are such a tease!”
“But you love me!” he wiggled his eyebrows and walked to the stage door.

The guys stood in the dark behind the curtain, while the orchestra played the intro.
“This is it, mes amis… We are back on tour.” Seb smiled.
“Si! Let’s have fun tonight.” Carlos wiggled his eyebrows.
Urs looked at the others. “It’s great to be back.”
David nodded. “Yeah…”

And then the curtain fell and the audience applauded and cheered. The guys smiled. This was why they were doing it. The reactions from the audience and the love they gave them. It was such an amazing feeling.

During the show, Urs glanced at Laura. She looked so professional and it was obvious that she loved playing. When he met her gaze, he winked. It was so great to be together and both being able to do what they loved the most.

The show was over in no time. The guys included some old songs as well as a few new ones, and the audience seemed to love it. They received a few standing ovations and Seb didn’t even mess up the songs.

It was almost time for the encores, when Seb walked towards the orchestra. “Ladies and gentlemen… It’s time to meet the band.” he smiled.
The guitarist, drummer, conductor,.. were introduced to the audience and were awarded with applause.
“And at the piano… My beautiful wife, Laura Vanden Eynde.” Urs proudly said.
She stood up and bowed. When she looked at Urs, he came closer, took her hand and kissed it softly. The audience went wild and Laura blushed when she sat down again.

Seb looked at Urs when they walked of stage and chuckled. “And I thought you were the private one.”
He shrugged. “I know, but they would find it out anyway, so…”
“I don’t know if Simon will be so happy about it.” Carlos said.
“He shouldn’t have hired her then! Look, Carlos… I love Laura with all my heart. And yes, I’m normally a very private person, but I can’t hide this. I’ll give the fans al the attention that they want, but Laura and our child come first. No matter what.” Urs said.
David patted his shoulder. “You’re right, Buddy. I lost Indre because I didn’t give her what she needed. And I hope I can make up for it.”

Urs turned around when Laura walked into his dressing room.
“Why did you do that? Tell them I’m your wife?”
Urs smiled. “You are, so… And they would find it out sooner or later, so I’d rather be honest about it.”
“And soon they will find out I’m pregnant.” Laura bit her lip.”
Urs took her in his arms. “Liebling, our fans will love you as much as they love us. And I’m proud of you and our baby. We love each other and everyone should now.”

When they left the venue, fans were waiting for them. Laura walked towards the car when a few girls called out for her.
“Laura? Can we have your autograph?”
She looked at Urs and when he nodded, she walked towards them.
One of the girls handed her a notebook. “Hi, I’m Laray. You are an amazing pianist.”
“Thank you.” Laura smiled.
“And congratulations on your wedding! You know, we love these guys to dead and are very protective about them, but Urs made the right choice. It’s so obvious that he loves you very much.” Laray continued.
“Thanks. It means a lot that you accept me. And don’t worry… I won’t keep him away from you all.” Laura said.

While they were on their way to the hotel, Urs kissed her tenderly. “I’m so proud of you. The way you talked to those girls…”
“I didn’t do anything.” She shrugged.
“You know… Emma tried to keep me away from them. And they didn’t like her at all. I’m so happy that they accept you.” He smiled.
“Your fans are amazing women. I can see now why you guys like to perform and why it is so important for you to keep in touch with them.” Laura said.
“Ich liebe dich, Laura. Don’t ever doubt that.” He pulled her close and they drove further into the night.

The days went by and the tour went on. The guys had a greet time. They had missed performing and it was great to be with the fans again.

Laura was on the phone with Lorna.
“Alright, I’ll arrange everything. Seb will be thrilled to see you.”
“Thanks, Hun. You’re such a good friend.” Lorna smiled. “And how are you doing? How’s the baby?”
“We’re fine. Just the travelling is a little tiresome, but I’m happy to be with Urs.” She said.
Lorna chuckled. “I bet! And how is the performing?”
“It’s ok.” Laura shrugged.
Lorna heard something in her voice that wasn’t right. “Hey, it’s me. Tell me what’s wrong.”

“Some of the girls are giving me a hard time. I heard them talking. They were saying that I got the job because of Urs. And I see the looks they are giving us when we are together. It’s not that they say it to me personally, but they talk amongst each other and just loud enough for me to hear.” Laura sighed. “I try no to pay attention to it, but it’s not easy.”
“I’m sorry, Hun. But don’t react to it, cause they you’ll give them what they want. And you know that you didn’t get the job because of Urs. Those girls are just jealous because you married such a handsome man.” Lorna said.
Laura laughed. “Yeah, I know. Thanks for the talk, Hun.”
“You’re very welcome. And I’ll see you soon.”

Laura hung up the phone and felt two arms around her. “Why didn’t you tell me?”
“Urs! How much did you hear?” she turned around.
He looked at her. ”Liebling, if they are giving you a hard time, you should tell Simon.”
“It’s ok. I can manage. It’s not that bad.” She shrugged.
Urs kissed her tenderly. “You’re such a strong woman, Laura. That’s one of the reasons I love you. You don’t go running around complaining about everything or blow up things.”
“Complaining doesn’t solve a thing. And I’m fine, really. If it’s getting worse I’ll tell someone.” She smiled.
“Good. Now… how about we take a little nap?” Urs winked.
“A nap? I’m not tired.”
“Good! Cause I have other plans!” Urs scooped her in his arms and carried her to the bedroom.

David smiled when he saw Indre’s email. At least she replied to his messages.

My Davey,

I’m very glad to hear that you’ve started controlling Steph. Don’t let her get what she wants this time. Show Steph her place. I know that you can do this.

Yes, it has been a big mistake what you did with Steph… But… What’s done is done… Sometimes it’s really hard to start everything from zero again…

There are lots of things that I would like to tell you as well, but I can’t do it yet… And yes, David, I’m thinking about you. More than ever.

Take care of yourself,
Indre.
